Default why are famous people so stalked?

These days it seems like anyone who is a decent sports star gets a stalker. Its like as soon as you get a bit famous, you are assigned your very own stalker. Why do you think some people are so nuts?

Could you give us some examples? I haven't heard about any recent stalker cases, but I can think of a few from the past. I think it's both scary and sad that stalkers try to get into some of these people's lives, but I guess you can't stop people from taking obsessions too far.

Anna Kournikova comes to mind. A crazed fan didn't like her winning against his favorite...if I remember the story correctly. I agree with Q, they're a few crumbs short of a cracker and have nothing better to do with their lives.

I didn't hear about Anna Kournikova, but wow...some of the things these stalkers get upset over is pretty intense.

Has there ever been a case of some deranged stalker actually killing an athelete? Nothing really comes to mind right now.

I personally think that these stalkers are just people with severe mental issues, at least the majority of them. There are definitely a small percentage who are out there stalking for other reasons - like to get money out of them.

I think it is a personality disorder.. they see these people on TV and immediately
feel that they know the person, or that they are somehow entitled to know them.

I actually saw a news report on stalkers where it was said that one third of
celebrities at one time or another.. will receive a body part in the mail from
a fan. Their have been instances where celebrities have received fingers
in the mail.. from a fanatic that made a sacrifice out of admiration for
the celebrity. Very hard to believe.. but their are lunatics out there.

Wow, I guess it's pretty popular now to do that? I think that majority of those "body parts" are going to be trivial though, maybe arts like hair or something like that? Getting a finger in the mail would scare me half to death!

It's crazy how many celebrities get body parts in the mail. I can't imagine going to my mailbox, getting a package, opening it, and finding a finger in there!

It's definitely due to some mental disorder. I know people who are obsessed with celebrities and athletes, but would never take their obsession to the same place that stalkers do. I think some people lack the common sense that tells them to not stalk.
