Default Shawn Johnson Finally Wins Gold on Balance Beam

It took a while, but Shawn Johnson is finally golden.Johnson, the 16-year-old American gymnast who had failed to secure gold in Beijing, made good on her final attempt at a gold medal by winning the balance beam competition. Her 16.225 was more than enough to place ahead of U.S. teammate Nastia Liukin (16.025) and China's ...

It was a really good routine, and my wife and I were happy to see her take home a gold.

I don't see how China got a Bronze when the Russian's routine was more solid, but if she went in with a higher degree of difficulty then perhaps that made a small difference. This new pointing system has really confused us this year. If they consider it more accurate then hey...gotta live with it.

I knew that it would be either Shawn or Nastia to take it on the balance beam. I've been watching the Olympics, and though I don't really watch gymnastics often, I was kind of forced into it. I was amazed at the ways that these girls can twist their bodies. It's even more amazing to watch the men do it and try to imagine me moving that way!

I have to watch the gymnastics with my daughter, though she isn't interested in much else. The routine was amazing, it would scare me to see my kid doing that. They say 'finally' but she's going home with one gold and three silver, not exactly something to be sniffed at.

I heard that China may be losing their golds. The one that beat Nastia Liukin when they had the same scores in uneven bars might be only 14 years old. I guess we'll see what action is taken if any after the investigation is done.

I'm not suprised that Shawn Johnson won the gold in this event. It was a great routine and well executed. Shawn can go nowhere but up now.....wherever that might be after the gold
