Default Should The USA Have Went To The Olympics

Considering China's human rights violations for the past 100 years, I don't think we should have attended the Olympics this year in China. Even though they are being extra careful to keep all the bad stuff off the radar, you know this stuff is happening where we can't see it? Why even associate ourselves with them?

Why not? Its a great way to show that even our sports professionals are better than theirs, along with our people and government. OK so both governments suck, but you know what I mean.

It seems to me though that we are just giving a nod and wink to the Chinese government saying one thing to the world and just letting business as usual go on anyway.

Why use sports to demonstrate the 'disapproval' with these violations? That to me, would be hypocrisy of the highest order on the part of the US. There's a heck of a lot of trade going on between both countries - that would be a good place to start.

You are so right. The trade should stop as well. But then our country really does not care about human rights as long as the money is flowing.

Oh I think that the trade should stop as well. Without out economic stimulus China would not be the growing super power they are today.

I just think it is kinda hard to ask the athletes who have committed so much of their life to training for this, sometimes once in a lifetime, event, to make the sacrifice when our politicians wont make the call otherwise. If there was a trade embargo going on, then I'd support the call to boycott the Games.

Hardly the time to talk about violations while we buy as much of their stuff as we can, and we certainly don't mind selling them ours. It's a good opportunity now that the Chinese government have tried to soften their image, for the rest of the world to start discussing these troubling issues with them.
