I think there is another reason as well. The NFL is just more popular than the NHL. More eyeballs equals more views. The fans have spoken with their time and effort as to which they like better. Not putting down the NHL or its fans in any way at all.

Oh the NHL has its fans of course. Its just that at least here in America the NFL is king. Canada likes the NHL from what I hear. Its a much more popular sport there than it is here in America.
