| NCAA College Football Betting Preview – Wake Forest Demon Deacons Wake Forest is coming off of consecutive bowl seasons for the first time in school history for online college football betting faithful and in a weakened conference, the Demon Deacons should be contending for the title again. With 14 returning starters, another good year is expected by NCAA football wagering enthusiasts in Winston-Salem. Offense There’s a lot of confidence brewing on the Demon Deacons offense based around the return of two-year starter, quarterback Riley Skinner. Without him, they wouldn’t even be competitive. He missed two games last year and his crew lost to Boston College and Nebraska. While the backfield is set with Skinner and running back Josh Adams, there are some concerns in the other areas. On the offensive line, two starters return but the unit should have been stronger but the loss of Chris DeGeare because of academic reasons weakens the unit. DeGeare may have been one of the best guards in the conference but for now, we won’t know. The passing game is also somewhat of a mystery since Skinner’s favorite receiver, Kenneth Moore, is gone. Skinner will have to find some new, reliable weapons to use. Overall, this offense will be worse than the one that the Deacons finished 2007 with but it isn’t necessarily a downgrade. They need some time to develop and make new chemistry. Defense With nine starters returning on defense, this should be among the best in the ACC. They finished fourth in the country with 35 turnovers, which is a great sign heading into this year. Wake was very strong against the run last year but after losing two members off of their defensive line, there are some minor concerns. Still, with five of the other members of the front seven returning, this should be a tough unit to rush against. The secondary is air tight with Alphonso Smith and Brandon Ghee at cornerback, who are the best tandem in the ACC. Smith had three touchdowns last season. Both starting safeties also return on a unit that finished top 20 in pass efficiency. The only concerns are replacing a starting tackle and starting end. If that exchange is seamless, this could be one of the better units in the country. Outlook With no Virginia Tech on the schedule and Clemson and Boston College in Wake’s backyard, the schedule can be considered light. Wake’s biggest conference road hurdle will be at Florida State, but they will have some suspensions hanging over from last year for that game. The defense might have to carry Wake for the first month of the season but with an easy schedule, the Demon Deacons should be competing for the ACC crown again.
