The Boston College Eagles have been flying Over totals in front of their hometown fans.

Boston College enters Saturday’s game against #3 North Carolina having gone Over in six of their last seven home games. Coincidently, the North Carolina Tar Heels went Over the total in seven of their 10 road games so far this season.

Expect oddsmakers to set a hefty Total for this matchup that tips off at 3:30 pm ET on ABC.

It’s been a down year for a Boston College program that entered the NCAA Tournament with high expectations the past couple of seasons. At 13-13 overall and 4-9 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the Eagles will find themselves on the outside looking in when the Madness starts in just over two weeks.

Inconsistent against the spread as well at 9-12, B.C. backers hopefully spotted the Over trend and were able to recoup some of their early season losses. For the season, Boston College has gone Over in nine of 13 home games and with the nation’s second-leading offense visiting on Saturday, you can expect another high scoring game.

At home, the Eagles’ offense puts up 72.7 points per game, up more than five points from the 67.5 points they produce on the road. Combined with a defense giving up 70.9 points per game, 226th in the nation, Boston College’s games have no problem eclipsing some pretty large numbers.

Surprisingly, the highest total the Eagles faced this season wasn’t at home, but on the road. Boston College ended January with a game against these same UNC Tar Heels. The two teams fell just short of the lofty number as UNC beat B.C. 91-69 with the Total set at 161 ½.

If B.C. is to rack up the points in this game, expect junior Tyrese Rice to have a big day. Rice averages 20.4 points per game which puts him second in the ACC behind UNC’s Tyler Hansbrough.

Hansbrough scores 23.4 points a game but he hasn’t been the sole offensive producer for the Tar Heels. Three other players on the team are scoring at least 10 points per game for an offense averaging 90.1 points per game.

UNC could be without one of those top scorers however, as sophomore guard Ty Lawson is listed questionable with an ankle injury. Lawson injured the ankle on February 3rd against Florida State and hasn’t played in the six games since.

Losing Lawson’s 13.6 points per game, along with his team leading 5.7 assists and 1.9 steals a game, created problems for the Tar Heels as the team failed to cover two of the next three spreads, including a straight up loss to Duke.

North Carolina has since adjusted to life without Lawson and has covered three games in a row to enter Saturday’s game 7-3 ATS on the road and 19-6 ATS for the season.
