Betus Sportsbook - NCAA Betting Odds Preview - March Madness - The Final Four
There are only three games left before another year of NCAAB betting comes to a close. We’ll see two of them on Saturday, as the men’s college basketball Tournament pulls into San Antonio for the Final Four.
The first matchup (6:05 p.m. Eastern) is between the Memphis Tigers and the UCLA Bruins. At press time, the Tigers were 2-point favorites (-130 on the moneyline) with a total of 134.5 points. Memphis covered during each of the last two rounds, convincingly beating Michigan State and Texas to end a withering 4-12 slump against the spread.
UCLA was just as dominant in the Elite Eight, beating Xavier 76-57 as a 6-point chalk. But there were some rough times before that, including a second-round 51-49 victory over Texas A&M (+9.5) that left Bruins supporters biting their nails. Battling chalk and assorted injuries, UCLA is in the red at 3-4 ATS in postseason play.
The nightcap (8:45 p.m.) could be the best game of the entire Tournament: Kansas vs. North Carolina. The Jayhawks are the most efficient team in Division I, while the Tar Heels were the No. 1 team in the polls going into March Madness. North Carolina is favored by 4.5 points (-175 on the ML) with a total of 159.5; this is the only team going into the Final Four at 4-0 ATS through the early rounds.
Kansas was humming along quite nicely, too, until the Davidson Wildcats (+9.5) nearly pulled off their third straight upset before bowing 59-57 to the Jayhawks. The Wildcats were a heavily undervalued team this year, going 23-11 ATS, so the betting public can be cynically expected to take the next step and overemphasize this narrow Kansas victory. Up until facing Davidson, the Jayhawks were on a 7-2 ATS roll.
The NCAAB odds on the championship futures market are leaning considerably toward North Carolina at +175. Kansas is +300, but so is Memphis. UCLA is last among these four No. 1 seeds at +325. The Tar Heels have indeed been playing at that high of a level since the Tournament began. A lot of the credit goes to Tyler Hansbrough, who came up large in the Elite Eight against Louisville: 28 points and 13 rebounds. Hansbrough is the runaway favorite at –200 to win the Wooden Award over a pack of four other contenders. His closest competition is Michael Beasley of Kansas State at +225.
