When it comes to setting hard-to-reach goals for yourself, UFC fighter Brandon "The Truth" Vera (8-1) sets the bar very, perhaps ridiculously, high.
Facing Fabricio Werdum (10-3-1) on June 7 at UFC 85, Vera says he plans on winning both the UFC heavyweight belt and the light heavyweight belt - and he plans to do it inside of 12 months.
"It’s my one-year goal to win both titles," he tells The Philippine Star. "After I get the heavyweight belt, I’m going after Rampage."
Before taking on the light heavyweight champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, (28-6) however, he will have to get past Werdum.
Currently in the Bodog Sportsbook, Vera are Werdum are at nearly even odds, with "The Truth" at -120 and the Brazilian at -110.
Vera's last match was a unanimous decision loss to Tim Sylvia (24-4) at UFC 77: Hostile Territory in October.
"I broke my left hand with my first punch," Vera explains. "I could’ve quit but I’m no quitter. I didn’t want to let down the fans who paid to watch me fight in the arena and at home on pay-per-view. I fought the guy ’til the end."
Werdum is coming off a TKO win over Gabriel Gonzaga (8-3) in January.
The winner of the match will likely earn a shot at interim UFC heavyweight champ Antonio "Minotauro" Rodrigo Nogueira (31-4-1).
