UFC welterweight champ Matt "The Terror" Serra (9-4) is getting used to being the underdog.
In April of 2007, he was the huge underdog against champion Georges "Rush" St. Pierre (15-2) but overcame the odds to win the title.
Saturday, April 19 in Montreal, Canada, Serra will be the underdog again when he defends his belt against St. Pierre at UFC 83: Serra vs St. Pierre 2.
Currently, Serra is a +325 underdog in the Bodog Sportsbook. St. Pierre is a -500 favorite.
"I'm a huge underdog," Serra tells The Oregonian, "Maybe not as huge as last time, but I'm an underdog."
"Last time, (St. Pierre) was coming off a decision win over BJ Penn and a destruction of (Matt) Hughes," Serra explains. "This time, he's coming off a decision over Josh Koscheck and a destruction of Hughes."
Since winning the title last year, Serra has been out of action with a back injury but assures fans that he is totally recovered.
"My back is 110 percent now," he says. "I never would have taken this fight if I couldn't compete at the level I should be."
