Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (15-2) and current champ Matt Serra (9-4) have a score to settle. Heading into their first match, last April at UFC 69: Shootout, both showed respect, but that changed when Serra beat St. Pierre by first-round TKO to win the belt in a shocking upset.
After the match, St. Pierre made excuses for his loss, saying a knee injury and personal problems had prevented him from training properly. Serra did not react well, firing back with, "Frenchie, go back to your red wine and hockey game."
St. Pierre took that personally and now, going into the rematch on April 19 at UFC 83: Serra vs St. Pierre 2 in Montreal, Canada, the French-Canadian fighter is promising to win back the belt and make Serra eat his words.
"I've trained very hard for this fight," he tells the National Post. "I've trained to fight an army, not a single person. I've been sparring every week with high-calibre fighters, fresh guys every round. If an army can't break me, one man will never do it. I've never been so well-prepared in my life and I can't wait."
Currently, St. Pierre is the -500 favorite to win in the Bodog Sportsbook. Serra is a +325 underdog.
