UFC heavyweight champ Randy Couture (16-8) may fight in a grappling match against Olympic gold medalist and former WWE superstar Kurt Angle.
That's with a heavy emphasis on the 'may'.
Couture is still tied up in a legal battle with the UFC following his sudden departure from the octagon in October of 2007. Since then, the UFC has prevented Couture from competing in any events.
Angle has been talking about getting into MMA, but his words have been empty so far, despite negotiations with the UFC and IFL.
"There’s some hoops to jump through, me first and foremost getting cleared of the UFC," Couture tells MMAweekly.com. "I’m sure they’re not going to give me permission to do anything at this point while I’m under contract with them."
If the match does happen, the former UFC champ says that Angle would be the one playing catch-up.
"Obviously, he’s a great wrestler," Couture explains. "He just hasn’t done any real competition for a number of years, so I think the burden is on him to step up and compete at that level again."
