Default NFL & NCAA Football Online Wagering Tips

Football Strategy Wagering - Keep It Simple, Keep it Real

With the 2008 – 2009 NFL and NCAAF football seasons quickly upon us it makes sense to revisit some tried and true online football betting strategies that could yield serious profits for NFL and NCAAF football betting fans.

There is no such thing as an iron-clad strategy. Anybody who sells you such a strategy is pretty much whispering a lie into your ear. Strategies do work, but they work because online sportsbook bettors have done their homework. That, of course, is the number one rule. Always, always do your homework. This includes looking for key injuries, reading the NFL and NCAAF online wagering articles in the BetUS locker room, and working as hard as possible to make smart wagers. Smart wagers ultimately lead to online betting profits.

Let’s get to some simple strategies!

NFL Strategies

What happened last year won’t necessarily happen this year!

The Patriots were on fire early on last season. Then, they failed to cover a single game in the playoffs. They also failed to cover the Super Bowl. Just because something happened last season; it doesn’t mean that it will happen this season.

Never ride a team from week to week.

Although it’s a good idea in some respects, hot teams can stay hot, the online odds makers are so in tune with each and every NFL team that lines can change dramatically from week to week. Unless a team like the Patriots appears early on in the season, there is no reason to stick with any given team. This is the NFL, friends.

Always look to make an online wager on the team receiving points.

Because of free agency, the NFL is chockfull of good players and good teams. Unlike MLB betting, where errors hardly ever occur on the field and therefore a true sense of which pitcher is going to win can be found, successful NFL betting depends on actually discovering which teams have the edge, but the edge is never enough. Getting points in the NFL is almost always a priority.

Coaching changes can prove beneficial.

This is an inside strategy of mine. I like to get a “feel” for a coach and then either go against his team or for his team week to week. For instance, I had a great feeling about Sean Payton in New Orleans a couple of years ago. Not so great a feeling about Cam Cameron last season. What do I think about Jim Zorn in Washington? I actually think the Redskins will be going off as underdogs in some games where they will have a legitimate chance to win. I like Zorn. Read as much as you can about the new coaches and then take a shot when you think its right.

NCAAF Betting Strategies

Riding a team is okay but be careful!

This is very important - - teams in college football can win, heck, go undefeated, but covering the online wagering spread is a different thing altogether! For instance, Ohio State won a lot of games last year but because their schedule was pretty much garbage they barely covered. I mean, what team can consistently cover a 42 point spread?

The best bets are the ones where teams appear almost even.

By contrast, the worst are the ones that look like slam-dunks. Did anybody see the USC Trojans losing to the Stanford Cardinal? The line in that game was 42 or 42 ½ if I remember correctly. That means that we must, above all else, concentrate on games where the college football online betting spreads are manageable. I love making a decision between Florida and LSU for example. Those are the sort of wagers that we will be able to get some nice money-line bets on.

Stick to “money” conferences.

This is a very debatable strategy but it makes sense. The money conferences - - Pac-10, Big-10, SEC, Big-12 - - yield the most information on the teams, players and coaches. This is information that online NCAA football betting fans need in order to make profits.

When in doubt, take the points.

If you really want to make a wager on a game and there’s nothing that you see that could possibly help you make a decision one way or another, always take the points. Like the NFL, this is football. Anything can happen once the ball is snapped.

Good luck this season!
