MLB: M’s vs O’s Predictions

Seattle

The Mariners have high hopes but just can’t keep things together very long so far this season. They are 6-4 in their last 10 games, including a four game winning streak but they need more consistency.

The Mariners have become an odd mix of a team that has been hitting home runs but not scoring that much. Nelson Cruz has been the monster they wanted in the middle of that lineup but the others have not filled in around him all that well. Robinson Cano might be the most overpaid player in the league.

Taijuan Walker has underperformed this season but he has had back to back solid outings so maybe he is coming around. He seems to fall into that classic group of young pitchers who doesn’t trust his stuff enough. As a result he winds up being too fine and walking people or putting himself in spots where he has to serve it up and gets hit.

Walks are going to always be something he has to watch.

Baltimore

The Orioles escaped not being swept over the weekend by the Angels with a 3-0 win on Sunday. They only scored five runs in the series but I don’t think that is too much cause for alarm because L.A. has been putting up really good numbers on the mound. Still the O’s are not in a great spot right now. Technically they are not in last in the division but they do have the fewest wins. They are only .500 on their current homestand and need to pick things up.

There is nothing sexy about Miguel Gonzalez other than that he gives his team a chance to win. Twice in his last three starts he has pitched 7 innings while not giving up any earned runs but on other nights he looks more than ordinary. Even when he is going right it looks like a team could solve him at any moment but he has developed good escapability.

The fact that he has been good of late might make him a fade target though.

The over looks solid but I will go with Seattle and the slight road upset.
