The #13 ranked Cyclones visit Manhattan hoping to rebound from their home loss to the Baylor Bears. The slip up against Baylor leaves Iowa State a full game back of Kansas for the top spot in the Big 12.

Iowa State

The Cyclones had a chance to better their tournament resume and add a signature win when they welcomed in the #19 Baylor Bears Wednesday night.

That plan however went south quickly as Baylor came in and dominated the Cyclones en route to a 9 point road victory. Now, with just 3 games left in the regular season, Iowa State cannot afford a slip up. They’re first task will be invading the arena at the center of the NCAA’s attention following a court storming.

Iowa State had a chance to jump into a first place tie with Kansas for 1st place in the Big 12. They’ll now need to win out and get some help if they hope to claim the overall number 1 seed for the Big 12 tournament. Regardless, winning out will give Iowa State a 23 win season with tournament play still to come.

The Cyclones are led by Junior F Georges Niang. Niang is scoring 14.6 points a game to go along with 5.4 rebounds a game. Niang scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the loss against Baylor.

Georges Niang had the same stats in the Jan. 20th meeting with Kansas State when he put up 14 points and 6 rebounds. The Cyclones went on to win the game 77-71.

Iowa State brings in a 4-4 road record thus far.

Kansas State

The Wildcats are the center of attention following their upset home win against Kansas. However, it isn’t because they knocked off a top 10 opponent. Following a court rush, students bumped into numerous Kansas players and caused much more drama to overshadow the team’s big win.

With all that aside, the Wildcats sub .500 record will not be enough to get them into the NCAA tournament. With just 2 games remaining in the regular season, a win against Iowa State is an absolute must if Kansas State wants to impress the committee. A deep run into the Big 12 tournament is also a must.

The Wildcats are led by Sophomore G Marcus Foster. Foster is scoring 13.1 points a game so far in the 2014-2015 season. He’ll hope to have a similar game to the one the last time these two teams met as he went for 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Kansas State has made it tough on road opponents this season. The Wildcats bring in an 11-4 S.U. home record. They’re averaging 65.1 points a game and allowing just 58.5.

NCAA Basketball Trends:

  • Cyclones are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Saturday games.
  • Cyclones are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS loss.
  • Wildcats are 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
  • Wildcats are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win.

Free 4* NCAA Basketball Pick: Iowa State -3.5

It’s obvious that Kansas State is in a must win situation. That being said, they’re simply not an NCAA tournament caliber team.

Iowa State 73, Kansas State 64
