NFL Betting – Week 5 Roundup
I’d describe Week 5 in the NFL as “telling.” It told us which surprise teams were for real and which weren’t.
It also told us which slow-starters would be fine and which ones have reason to panic.

The theme of Week 4: horrifically blown leads. Hope you didn’t change the channel or go work in the garden, as you would’ve missed some dandy second halves (and faced the embarrassment of telling your friends you were working in the garden).
Who would have ever guessed that the Buffalo Bills would start the season 3-0? In the early 1990’s this was a strong franchise, but for the last few years they have been bottom feeders. Chan Gailey is doing a great job of instilling confidence in this team.
Defenses finally struck back in Week 3, as some fast-starting offenses finally hit the skids a little bit. The big story, though: the Lions and Bills doing the unthinkable and remaining undefeated.
The offensive madness continued in Week 2. Once again, Tom Brady and Cam Newton were the stars, as they each set new records for the most passing yards ever in the first two weeks of a season.
South Carolina’s Week 3 game against the Naval Academy offers a great opportunity for the beleaguered Carolina defense to have a resurgence and get on track after allowing 79 points over the first two weeks to East Carolina and Georgia.
Virtually every media outlet and talking head in the college football business has exhausted their resources discussing the struggles of Notre Dame football. Why don’t I follow suit, if only for a few moments?
Two of the SEC’s bottom-feeding teams open their conference schedule against each other this Saturday in Nashville. Though these teams cannot keep up with the likes of an Alabama, LSU or South Carolina, they are well matched versus each other, which should at least make for an intriguing game.
Week 3’s cross-conference clash between Tigers in the wild jungle of Clemson’s “Death Valley” Stadium should absolutely be worth the price of admission.
In the first couple weeks of the 2011 season, the SEC has rapidly transformed into a defense-oriented, slobberknocking battle-of-attrition style of football to a barnburning, scoreboard-lighting brand.
Well, that was exciting. The message in Week 1 of the NFL was loud and clear; the lockout hurt defensive players more than offensive players. Were they out of shape or something?
One can hardly think about early-season college football without this classic rivalry coming to mind. A rivalry bitter, yet as old-school and respectful as they come, the Notre Dame-Michigan game is always cherished by the fan bases and the TV networks.
Among the several exciting games coming down the pipes for Week 2, sadly this isn’t one of them. Arkansas is a strong SEC West division program with noble aspirations in 2011, while the Lobos are rather a mess.
A glut of marquee match-ups greets the college football world in the second week of the season; one of the games that stand out is Alabama vs. Penn State.

Week 2 in the college football world gives us a tasty SEC match-up between a team on the rise and the home side Auburn Tigers, with a target on its back and lots to prove after a paltry effort in the opening week.
