The latest AP Top 25 college football rankings came out late this week because of the holiday, and those extra days of waiting were well worth it as there’s been plenty of movement throughout.
It hasn’t always been pretty for the Ole Ball Coach and his South Carolina Gamecocks, but the bottom line speaks loudest, which is Carolina beating unbeaten and ranked #10 in the FBS.
As one can quickly tell from the betting lines, to say Louisiana State is heavily favored in this game is a wild understatement.
In a battle of two of America’s service academies, the beginning, middle and end of the story is a battle of two juggernaut running games. The Air Force Falcons are ranked #1 in the nation in rushing, with an astounding 411.7 ypg average.
In theory, Wake Forest doesn’t have a tough act to follow in 2011. Last year, the Demon Deacons finished 3-8, good for last in the ACC Atlantic and tied with Duke for the conference’s worst overall record.
Is college football betting different than NFL football betting? In a word, yes. Sure, the sports are mostly the same and many of the basic principles don’t need to be covered again.
It’s a brave new world order and it’s going to take some getting used to. Quarterbacks that are 6’6, have a cannon on their shoulder, can bust a move like Michael Jackson to elude defender and make a 6’3 240-pound linebacker cringe just before making contact, knowing he might be the worse for wear from taking the hit.
For those that love to wager on college football, it comes in handy to know certain tendencies of the head coach. USC is the top betting choice to be national champs at 7:2, with Ohio State second at 4:1. Oklahoma is also 5:1.
Georgia coach Mark Richt’s returns 17 starters from arguably the best team in the country at the end of last season, and they are also riding a seven-game winning streak. Talent wise, the Bulldogs can easily lineup with any team even after losing offensive tackle Trinton Sturdivant for the season.

Georgia’s first tough game is September 13th at #26 South Carolina. South Carolina handed Georgia one of its two losses last season, 16-12 in Athens as three-point underdogs. Also, five of the last seven meetings between these teams have been decided by six or less points.
