The 2011 Triple Crown racing season comes to a close this Saturday with the 143rd running of the Belmont Stakes from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. This race is contested on a dirt track over a distance 1 ½ miles making it the longest and most grueling test of the three for these three-year old Thoroughbreds.
This Saturday, June 11 is the 143rd running of the Belmont Stakes, the third and final Triple Crown race. While there is still plenty of time to get a bet in on which horse you think will win the race, there are also a number of ‘prop’ bets that might peak your interest.
The little guys in the saddle are important in every horse race, but they are especially significant in the Belmont Stakes. It will be déjà vu for jockey Calvin Borel at the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.
Borel could pick up a personal Triple Crown as he jumps back on Mine That Bird, the favorite to win the $1-million, 1.5-mile ‘Test of Champions’ in New York.
Borel rode then-longshot Mine That Bird to victory at the Kentucky Derby, and then switched to the filly Rachel Alexandra for the Preakness Stakes, riding her to the winner’s circle. The filly was not entered in the Belmont Stakes.
