Colts vs. Chargers Gambling Preview

The pass-happy San Diego Chargers offense could be the key to them beating the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night. We preview this Week 12 NFL Sunday night football matchup…

NFL: RIVERS TRIES TO DROWN COLTS

The pass-happy San Diego Chargers offense could be the key to them beating the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night and it will have a big effect on our Primetime Prop.

If you back the player who scores the first touchdown in the “Player to Score 1st TD” prop for the Colts @ Chargers game and he scores an additional touchdown in the third quarter, your winning wager will be doubled up to $100.00 for this specific prop.

San Diego (4-6) is currently a 2 ½-point home favorite even though they have a worse record than Indianapolis (6-4), and if they win this game it should be on the arm of quarterback Philip Rivers.

Rivers has the sixth most passing yards in the league and his 21 touchdown passes are tops in the NFL. That’s pretty surprising considering he was only middle of the pack in yards last year and had only 21 touchdown throws in the entire 2007 season.

The increase in passing can be attributed to the lack of production from superstar running back, LaDainian Tomlinson. Bothered by a toe injury for most of the season, Tomlinson has just 686 rushing yards and a measly six total touchdowns (five of them rushing).

Tomlinson is still the leader for the Player to Score 1st TD Propat 5:1, but there appears to be more value with Chargers’ tight end Antonio Gates (8:1) along with receivers Vincent Jackson (9:1) and Chris Chambers (10:1). San Diego needs to get up early on this Colts team while the Sunday night crowd is still in a frenzy and the best chance to score a TD is through the air.

And while San Diego should have a big passing day, especially with Colts’ safety Bob Sanders and cornerback Kelvin Hayden both questionable to play, Indianapolis is trying to build on an offensive effort that saw them have almost 500 yards of total offense last week against Houston.

Peyton Manning had his biggest passing day of the year with 320 yards but the bigger news is that running back Joseph Addai went over the 100-yard mark for the first time this season.

The San Diego defense ranks just 27th in the NFL, but they really get pumped up playing at home in primetime, like they did while blowing out New England 30-10 back in October. They were also beating the Jets 38-14 in the fourth quarter of a Monday night game back in September before giving up some garbage points late.

Still, Manning and the Indy offense present a much bigger challenge than either the Pats or Jets on those nights, as they each had new quarterbacks. And the oddsmakers expect a lot of scoring on both sides with the Over/Under at 49.5 points, the third highest of the week.
