Pro Football Gambling – Vikings vs Falcons

Minnesota Vikings vs. Atlanta Falcons Preview

The Falcons really need a win to stay in the NFC South race as well as NFC Wild card race. Atlanta needs to beat the teams they should in the next few games, as after this game facing a 2-win Vikings’ team 2 of their next 3 games are facing teams that are well below .500. NFL lines have the Falcons as 9.5-home favorites with a total of 44.

In their last games the Falcons did not look good, but still beat the Tennessee Titans 23-17 and the Vikings lost to the Oakland Raiders 27-21.

With Peterson a question mark they will need a solid game from rookie QB Christian Ponder and backup RB Toby Gerhart. Ponder may be the guy who has to carry the offense, as the Falcons have the 2nd best run defense in the league. However, their pass defense only ranks 26th in the league.

Ponder has 5 TD and 6 INT since becoming the starter and he needs to avoid the turnover in this game. Atlanta has a suspect pass defense, but they do have 11 picks on the season.

The Vikings rank a legit 10th defending the run, but only rank 28th in the league in defending the pass. That is not good facing QB Matt Ryan and the solid WR duo of Roddy White and rookie Julio Jones. The Falcons seem to be a different beast at home and if the Vikings give up a ton of passing yards they will be toast. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The one thing the Vikings MUST do is get to Ryan in the pocket and they have a solid pass defense led by Jared Allen (13.5 sacks) that has the 2nd most sacks in the NFL this season (31).

Michael Turner rushed for 100 yards last week against Tennessee and while he will be facing the strength of the Vikings’ defense he will have a good game this Sunday.

The Vikings have lost 10 of their last 13 road games.

Betting Trends

The Vikings are 4-5-1 ATS and have an O/U record of 6-4 and the Falcons are 4-6 ATS and have an O/U record of 3-7.

The Vikings are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games as a road underdog, 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 games against teams with a winning record, and have an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.

The Falcons are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games against team with a losing record and in their last 6 games the total has gone Under every time.

Jason’s Pick: Have to go with the Falcons to win and cover in this game, especially since Peterson will likely not play. Take the Over as well, as with the issues the Vikings have on defense the Falcons will score a lot of points.
