Could a big-name receiver have a new home? Trade rumors open today’s news.

NFL news: Vincent Jackson on his way to Minnesota? Packers targeting Marshawn Lynch?

Vincent Jackson On His Way To Minnesota?

As I type these words, disgruntled San Diego Charges receiver Vincent Jackson is at a hearing, awaiting word from an arbitrator on whether or not his suspension will be shaved from six to three games.

If his ban is shortened, Jackson could be traded any day now. The Minnesota Vikings are definitely the top suitor right now. With Sidney Rice (hip) out long-term, Brett Favre lacks a big, rangy deep-threat with leaping ability. Zigi Wilf seems poised to make a major offer for V-Jax if he hasn’t already and you can bet Favre is influencing the dealings.

The Chargers reportedly want something like a 2011 second-rounder and conditional pick in 2012 if Jackson signs a long-term deal with his new team. The St. Louis Rams are also reportedly after Jackson but the deal seems like it’s Minnesota’s to lose right now.

Are the Packers after Marshawn Lynch? Trade rumors began to swirl after Aaron Rodgers talked up his former California teammate. But the Bills aren’t necessarily shopping Lynch actively. A possible scenario would have Green Bay ship linebacker A.J. Hawk to Buffalo, as Hawk’s agent told the Packers he’d be open to a trade. But this rumor is lukewarm at best.

NBA news: Is Shaq a criminal mastermind?

We can thank Shawn Darling, a former employee of Shaquille O’Neal’s, for breaking one of the weirdest sports stories I’ve seen in a while. Maybe, just maybe…Shaq is an expert computer hacker and criminal mastermind.

Darling sued Shaq for computer hacking and made a bunch of wild allegations. He claims Shaq hacked into his voicemail; used his law enforcement contacts to find personal information about one of his mistresses; threw a computer holding lots of evidence into a lake behind his home; and conspired with law enforcement to frame Darling for a criminal offense.

Huh? Hard to know how legit these accusations are, as Darling has a pretty big rap sheet of his own, but the allegations alone are crazy.

NHL news: Rangers sign Marc Staal to five-year deal

The New York Rangers locked up one of their horses on the back end. They signed Marc Staal, a restricted free agent, to a five-year deal. He’s a rock on their blueline, having played 202 consecutive games and averaging over 23 minutes of ice time per contest last year.

NCAA football news: Weslye Saunders dismissed from South Carolina

Tight end Weslye Saunders has been the subject of rumors and allegations all summer, being questioned about potential agent contact at a party in South Beach, Florida this summer. Eventually, coach Steve Spurrier suspended him for violations he said were not connected to the NCAA probe.

Apparently, the Gamecocks had enough. They’ve officially dismissed Saunders from the team. Will this affect his NFL draft stock? Some scouts had him rated as the second-best tight end for the 2011 draft.
