With the dust settled after Week 1 in the NFL, it’s time for a few injury updates. And let’s see how badly the NHL slapped the New Jersey Devils on the wrist.

NFL news: Stafford won’t need surgery; Kris Jenkins suffers knee injury; Female reporter speaks out against Jets

Detroit Lions Stafford won’t need surgery

Week 1 couldn’t have gone worse for the Detroit Lions thanks to a blown call that cost them a win and their quarterback getting hurt. But Matthew Stafford may not miss as much time as initially feared. He reportedly won’t need surgery on his throwing shoulder and coach Jim Schwartz called the MRI relatively encouraging. Stafford may miss a week or two instead of the six he was originally expected to miss.

Jets defensive tackle Kris Jenkins is a monster when he plays but “when” is the operative word. It looks like he’s back to the infirmary after just one game this season. He injured his knee in the Monday nighter against Baltimore – the same one he tore last season. No word yet on the severity of his re-injury.

The bad news didn’t end there for the Jets. Ines Sainz, a reporter from the Mexican station TV Azteca, spoke out against the Jets players after she visited their practice facility to interview Mark Sanchez on Sunday. The former Miss Universe contestant and Miss Spain winner says she was catcalled and made to feel very uncomfortable in the New York Jets’ locker room and on the sidelines, when players and coaches allegedly set up receiving drills to deliberately make balls come close to her.

NHL news: Devils fined $3 million, docked draft picks for circumventing salary cap

If you thought restructuring Ilya Kovalchuk’s contract was the only punishment the New Jersey Devils would face for signing him to the slippery 17-year deal that circumvented the salary cap, you thought wrong.

The NHL hit New Jersey hard yesterday. Not only it they fine the team $3 million, it forced the Devils to forfeit a third-round pick next year and first-rounder some time over the next four seasons.

NCAA football news: Ingram back at practice; Arkansas RB Johnson out against Georgia; Utah QB Wynn questionable

The Alabama Crimson Tide have been fine without reigning Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, starting 2-0, so it’s scary to imagine how good they’ll be with their star runner back in the lineup. He returned to practice this week, greatly upping his chances of playing against Duke on Saturday.

No. 12 Arkansas isn’t so lucky. Their shifty running back/return man Dennis Johnson suffered what Bobby Petrino calls a “bowel injury” last week. He has 85 rushing yards on just nine carries this season.

Utah may not have quarterback Jordan Wynn this week. He didn’t play against UNLV last week because he hurt his throwing hand against Pittsburgh. The Utes probably won’t rush him back considering their opponent this week, New Mexico, is allowing 62 points per game.
