NFL news: Randy Moss told Vikings owner to fire Brad Childress; Ernie Sims fined $50,000

The Vikings Can't Stay Out Of The News!

More and more reasons for Randy Moss’ dismissal from the Minnesota Vikings keep tumbling into the forefront. The latest: he reportedly approached Vikings owner Zigy Wilf and several other team execs after Minnesota’s loss last Sunday and told them that Brad Childress was a bad coach who should be fired.

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Ernie Sims was fined $50,000 yesterday for an October 24 hit on Titans receiver Lavelle Hawkins. The league said the penalty was for “unnecessarily striking a defenseless receiver in the neck and head area with his forearms. “ Sims plans to appeal the fine.

Quick injury update: Matt Hasselbeck’s concussion will keep him out against the Giants on Sunday. Charlie Whitehurst will get his first NFL start in 5 years in his place.

MLB news: Sparky Anderson dead at 76; Blue Jays acquire Miguel Olivo; World Series MVP cut

The man behind the Big Red Machine. The first manager to win the World Series in both leagues. The only manager to lead two different franchises in career wins. Sparky Anderson was a true baseball legend and Hall of Famer. Now, the baseball world says goodbye to him.

Anderson passed away yesterday at age 76 due to complications from dementia. He is sixth on baseball’s all-time wins list.

The Toronto Blue Jays made a quiet move yesterday, picking up catcher Miguel Olivo from the Colorado Rockies. Olivo may not suit up for them in 2011, however, They actually declined his option, meaning he becomes a Type B free agent. He can take offers from other teams and, if he leaves, will land the Jays a supplemental round draft pick.

Winning the World Series MVP isn’t always enough to keep your job. Edgar Renteria learned that the hard way on Thursday. The San Francisco Giants declined to exercise his $9.5-million option and handed him a $500,000 buyout. Renteria is now pondering retirement.

NCAA football news: Cameron Newton shopped by a middle man last year? LeGrand back in hospital

According to a report by ESPN.com, Auburn quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Cameron Newton was shopped around as a recruit last December for $180,000 dollars.

That number was allegedly offered to Mississippi State. However, it was a “discount” since Newton liked their coach. The actual going rate was $200,000. Auburn hasn’t commented on the story besides saying that Newton remains eligible to play. Newton’s family denies receiving any money or allowing anyone to “sell” Cameron.

Rutgers defensive lineman Eric LeGrand remains paralyzed from the neck down after being injured on October 16 against Army and has been hospitalized again with a high fever. He had been transferred to a rehab center in New Jersey for the next phase of his recovery but the fever landed him back in hospital for observation.
