The truth about Randy Moss’ exile from the Vikings comes out in today’s news.

NFL news: Rude behavior at dinner was final straw for Vikings and Moss; T.O. disses Donovan McNabb

TO has a laugh at McNabb's expense

Sure, it didn’t help that Randy Moss openly declared his love for the Patriots or that his diva mentality was reportedly rubbing off on Percy Harvin. But another factor contributed to the Vikings waiving Randy Moss.

Apparently, Randy Moss embarrassed the team during its Friday dinner – a Vikings tradition in which a local food establishment brings a catered meal to the locker room. While the rest of the team gobbled up the chicken, ribs and so on from the popular mom-and-pop restaurant, Moss paced up and down the room. He reportedly yelled “What the [expletive]? Who ordered this crap? I wouldn’t feed this to my dog!”

One Vikings player said Moss “deserved to be cut after that” and that “you just felt so sad for [the restaurant staff]. I had never seen anyone treated like that. And by the way, the food was actually really good.”

With Donovan McNabb’s fitness coming into question after Mike Shanahan benched him on Sunday, I suppose it was only a matter of time before Terrell Owens seized the opportunity to take a pot shot at his former quarterback.

During his radio show with Chad Ochocinco, the “T. Ocho Show,” Owens hinted: “Well, I don’t really want to start anything, but I did play in the Super Bowl and there were rumors where he couldn’t get our two-minute offense going at the end of the game. I’m just saying.”

MLB news: Yankees intend to pursue Cliff Lee; World Series ratings tank

Any doubts about the Yankees pursuing Cliff Lee in free agency can be erased. What did we expect? It’s the Yankees. Of course they’ll come after the top available arm. Their first priority is re-signing stalwarts Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte but, after that, you can bet they’ll table a nine-figure offer for the dominant lefty Lee.

As much as baseball fans claimed it was “exciting” to see two new teams in the World Series, the TV ratings suggest everyone would’ve rather watched a Yankees/Phillies rematch. The 2010 World Series’ 8.4 rating and 14 share matched the record-low set by the 2008 Phillies/Rays World Series.

NBA news: Magic/Knicks game postponed due to asbestos scare

Everybody out of the building! The Orlando Magic and New York Knicks’ game at Madison Square Garden, scheduled for last night, was postponed due to an asbestos scare. While maintenance staff did some maintenance in the attic above the arena’s ceiling, some debris fell into the arena and may have contained asbestos-related materials. Wait – MSG has an “attic?” Who knew?

To top it off – Magic center Martin Gortat called New York “a dirty, dirty place.” Atta boy.

NHL news: Zach Parise out three months; Dion Phaneuf suffers deep cut on leg

The news was worse than expected for the struggling New Jersey Devils regarding their captain, Zach Parise. He has a torn right meniscus. He had successful surgery to repair it and is expected to make a full recovery but will miss roughly three months.

The diagnosis is foggier for Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf. He suffered a deep cut on his leg when he got tangled up with Ottawa’s Peter Regin during Toronto’s loss last night. The cut was bad enough to hospitalize him. No word yet on his full diagnosis – but you can get updates by checking Elisha Cuthbert’s Twitter feed. Seriously. She’s his woman.

NCAA football news: Mississippi State DE Nick Bell dies of cancer

Mississippi State got some tragic and relatively unexpected news this week when defensive end Nick Bell died of cancer. He was only diagnosed in late September after experiencing headaches during practice. Doctors found a mass in his brain and removed it on October 1. Later, however, they learned the cancer had spread throughout his body. They tried to save him with emergency surgery this week but it was too late.

Bell played in four games this season and started two of them. He made seven tackles, including two for losses. Our hearts go out to the Bell family.
