We open Tuesday’s news with perhaps the most significant injury in the NFL so far this year.

NFL news:Frank Gore breaks hip, out for season; Josh McDaniels’ job safe?

Frank Gore breaks hip, out for season

It seemed innocent enough at the time, but it wasn’t. During last night’s victory over Arizona, San Francisco 49ers stud running back Frank Gore limped to the sidelines. He returned for a play then exited again. He didn’t appear to be in major discomfort. After the game, however, it was revealed that he broke his hip. Gore is out for the season.

The early rumblings are that the injury won’t affect Gore’s career in the long-term but the 49ers will have to soldier on in 2010 with Brian Westbrook as their starter.

Is Josh McDaniels safe as the Denver Broncos’ coach? A few days ago, owner Pat Bowlen said he’s “not interested in making a coaching change and that “I’m very happy with Josh. Josh is doing a good job.” However, he seemed to reverse his thoughts entirely with this statement yesterday:

“This has been a very trying and disappointing season for all of us. We haven’t had the success we had hoped to achieve. Josh McDaniels is the head coach of the Broncos and you always strive for stability at the position. However, with five games left in the 2010 season, we will continue to monitor the progress of the team and evaluate what’s in the best interest of this franchise.”

Hmm. Maybe the little fella will be jobless next season after all. Time will tell.

Quick update on the Andre Johnson/Cortland Finnegan fight: neither player was suspended. Both were fined $25,000.

NBA news: Stephen Jackson suspended one game; Dwyane Wade bailing on Spoelstra?

The NBA has suspended the Charlotte Bobcats’ top scorer, Stephen Jackson, one game for failing to leave the court in a timely manner following an ejection. He was tossed from Saturday’s loss to Milwaukee.

The power of King James in Miami is becoming clear. It appears even the face of the heat franchise, Dwayne Wade, is falling under his influence. When asked about coach Paul Spoelstra, whom Wade clicked nicely with over the last couple of seasons, this week, Wade said “I’m not going to say he’s ‘my guy,’ but he’s my coach.” While we don’t want to overreact, it’s pretty clear what D-Wade meant by that. How long before Pat Riley takes over?

MLB news: Rockies extend Troy Tulowitzki with $160-million deal

The Colorado Rockies have retained star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki – but not for cheap. His deal is worth roughly $160 million over the next 10 years. While it seems like a fair deal for a guy who batted .315 and hit 15 homers in the month of September alone last season, his deal will eventually eat up one quarter of Colorado’s payroll.
