Sports News – NBA news: Andrew Bynum says Lakers have “trust issues”; Pay Riley wins Executive of the Year

Pay Riley wins Executive of the Year

After a second straight playoff home loss to the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers may be coming apart at the seams. Center Andrew Bynum openly expressed his concern after Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinal.

“It’s deeply rooted at this point,” Bynum said. “It’s obvious we have trust issues. Unless we come out and discuss it, then nothing it going to really change.” He added that the Lakers will “go home” unless they have a good practice session Thursday.

Miami Heat president Pat Riley is the NBA’s 2010-11 Executive of the Year. It’s hardly a surprise after he lured both LeBron James and Chris Bosh while also retaining Dwyane Wade’s services and convincing Mike Miller and Zydrunas Ilgauskas to join the Heat for less money.

NFL news: Art Schlichter pleads not guilty to theft charges

Former NFL quarterback Art Schlichter has found himself in hot water with the law many a time since his career ended. He admits to committing at least 20 felonies and has been held in 44 different prisons across the Midwest for gambling-related crimes.

His latest alleged scheme: a sports ticket scam that cleaned a 68-year-old widow out for more than $1 million. On Wednesday, Schlichter pleaded not guilty to 13 different indictments in the theft case.

MLB news: Phil Hughes out up to eight weeks; Brian Sabean refutes Jose Reyes rumors; Rays’ and Jays’ managers ejected

Phil Hughes may not have thoracic outlet syndrome in his dead arm after all, but he still has an unexplained and drastic loss of velocity in his pitches. The Yankees righthander has been described rest and conditioning and is expected to miss another six to eight weeks.

San Francisco Giants general manager strongly denied rumors that he was trying to acquired Jose Reyes from the New York Mets yesterday. “Honestly, I haven’t seen or talked to [Mets general manager]

Sandy Alderson since January… I haven’t talked to anybody from the Mets, so I have no idea where the hell it came from.”

“So typical of today’s world, I guess we’re playing in New York and our shortstop [Miguel Tejada] isn’t playing too well and [Reyes] is a free-agent-to-be,” Sabean added. “It’s connect your dots, so there’s nothing to talk about.”

In Wednesday’s Rays-Jays game, both team’s managers were ejected. Toronto’s John Farrell got the hook during a seventh-inning pitching change and Tampa’s Joe Maddon was ejected after arguing a missed tag on an inning-ending double play.

NHL news: Canadian businessman offers $250 million-plus for Dallas Stars

Canadian billionaire Tom Gagldardi wants to buy the Dallas Stars and he isn’t playing around. Reportedly, he’s offered more than $250 million for the team. He now has a 30-day exclusive window to negotiate with the team. The Stars’ future has been in doubt since owner Tom Hicks defaulted on loans worth more than $500 million in March 2009.

Commissioner Gary Bettman insists that the Stars franchise will remain in Dallas no matter who buys it.
