Enjoy!

We start the weekend with a bang in the daily news, as there’s a little bit of everything to report today.

NFL news: Jeremy Shockey hospitalized after seizure

The New Orleans Saints got a major scare yesterday when Jeremy Shockey suffered a seizure in the team’s weight room. Darren Sharper was on hand and said Shockey became lucid again after about a minute and walked to the ambulance on his own power.

For now, the Saints are unclear as to when Shockey will be cleared to resume practicing.

MLB news: League tiring of umpire Joe West’s antics; Jeff Baker has vision scare

Maybe Ozzie Guillen was onto something this time? He and Mark Buehrle were fed up with Joe West we he called Buehrle for two balks and tossed both him and Guillen from the White Sox game two nights ago. Buehrle and Guillen accused West of being an attention hog, trying to promote his own CD, and not paying proper attention to his calls.

Reportedly, Major League Baseball has also had it with West, who has its own website, a publicist, a country music album and a clothing line. They’re looking into suspending or at least fining the umpire in the near future.

It took a minute for the Chicago Cubs to realize what was wrong with third baseman Jeff Baker yesterday. Actually, it took him not reacting at all to a line drive that whizzed past his head. Turns out Baker randomly lost vision in his right eye and had no idea that a ball was hit anywhere near him.

Baker is off to visit the team ophthalmologist. Meanwhile, Carlos Zambrano was hospitalized undergoing tests for appencitis-like symptoms.

NBA news: Zach Randolph identified as bigtime pot dealer? Super free agents plan to meet and discuss their futures

Well, so much for Zach Randolph’s redemption. Yesterday, a trusted police informant fingered the Memphis Grizzlies forward as a “major marijuana supplier” in Indianapolis. Narcotics officers pulled over a man named Arthur Boyd who was driving a Cadillac Escalade registered to Randolph. Inside the SUV: marijuana and ammunition. I guess it was silly of us to assume Randolph changed.

Apparently, some members of the uber-hyped 2010 NBA free agent class have decided to form a Jedi Council and discuss their future. At the very least, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Joe Johnson plan to get together and figure out what everyone’s plans are. Chris Bosh may join the brainstorming session as well. As Wade put it,

“A lot of decisions [will be based on] what other players are willing to do and what other guys want to do. So it’s not just a ‘me’ situation here. We all have to look and see what each other is thinking.”

NHL news: Crosby versus Ovechkin for 2011 Winter Classic

During a press conference today it was revealed that the Pittsburgh Penguins will host the Washington Capitals at Heinz Field for the 2011 NHL Winter Classic. The decision to give Pittsburgh a second outdoor game in four years left some New York Rangers fans outraged but it’s hard to argue with Crosby versus Ovechkin outside.

Reportedly, a second outdoor game will happen in February 2011 when the Montreal Canadians visit the Calgary Flames at McMahon Stadium. Cool.
