Wednesday Water Cooler – May 5th, 2010

Here we go with today’s sports water cooler talk. Here, you won’t just find the straight news; you’ll find the stuff everyone is talking about – the ice breakers, the Twitter Sports Picks and topics…well, basically all the stuff you discuss at the water cooler.

Enjoy!

Wednesday’s news kicks off quite similarly to Tuesday’s, with another Phillies fan causing a ruckus.

Did he get the Taser treatment too?

Let’s find out.

MLB news: Copcyat fan takes the field in Philly but avoids the Taser

After Monday night’s Taser incident was the talk of the down around the sports world, it’s no surprise that we saw another fan hop onto the field at Citizen’s Bank Park last night. He was practically asking for the Taser but the police didn’t take the bait this time. Instead. The portly fellow was escorted off the field to a chorus of “Fat loser!” and “Tase him! Tase him!”

Sounds like par for the course for  Philadelphia, the scariest sports city in America.

NFL news: More bizarre questions for NFL rookies revealed; Bengals still courting Pacman

In recent weeks, Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland got into hot water for asking if Dez Bryant’s mother was a prostitute. Since then, more and more rookies have revealed the bizarre, sometimes intrusive questions NFL teams are asking them during draft preparation.

Geno Atkins, a fourth-round pick for  Cincinnati, said that the Bengals asked him about his sexual orientation along with everything from “McDonald’s or Burger King?” to “Pillow or blanket?”

Cowboys second-rounder Sean Lee said one team deliberately criticized him and his school to test how he’d react to being insulted.

One player who probably should’ve answered more questions before being drafted, Adam “Pacman” Jones, continues to attract the Cincinnati Bengals (who else?).

Jones, who has been cleared for action by the NFL, recently worked out with Cincy for a second time. Don’t be surprised if he becomes just the latest notorious name to wear black and orange.

Quick note: the Philadelphia Eagles are switching back to their old-school light green uniforms for opening day 2010. Nice.

NBA news: Jon Calipari to Bulls?

It seems successful transitions from college to the pros are rare for coaches these days but that hasn’t stopped Kentucky’s John Calipari from expressing interest in doing so. He’s reportedly intrigued by the Bulls coaching vacancy and finds Chicago to be one of the few markets that appeals to him.

He’s also friends with LeBron James and shares representation with both D-Wade and Chris Bosh.

Could we see a massive coup for the Bulls that includes Calipari and a huge-name free agent?

In Calipari’s first NBA go-round, he coached the New Jersey Nets for a few rocky seasons in the late 1990s.

PGA news: Tiger struggles in Sawgrass practice; Kim out with thumb injury

It was only a nine-hole practice round at the Players Championship. But everything Tiger Woods does is news nowadays and yesterday’s “news” was concerning from a pure golf perspective. Tiger struggled mightily at TPC Sawgrass, plunking five balls in the water.

It may mean nothing but, given that he missed the cut by eight strokes last week, that probably isn’t the case.

Another big golf personality, Anthony Kim, is on the shelf this week. Kim’s thumb injury is finally becoming too painful to play through. It’ll keep him out of the Players and the threat of surgery could ruin his U.S. Open and British Open hopes.
