Today’s Sports News – NFL news: Charles Woodson breaks collarbone in Super Bowl; Tom Brady named league MVP; Munchak to coach Titans; Mark Sanchez dating 17-year-old?

Charles Woodson breaks collarbone in Super Bowl

Inevitably, angry Chicago Bears fans wanted to hear that Charles Woodson had a minor injury in the Super Bowl and could’ve returned. They would’ve loved to compare him to Jay Cutler. But it wasn’t to be. Woodson broke his collarbone in the game and was very clearly unable to return. The former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Defensive Player of the Year doesn’t think he’ll need surgery.

Naturally, Tom Brady has been named the 2010 NFL MVP. As we discussed last week – 36 touchdown passes, four interceptions, no true No. 1 receiver…enough said.

The Tennessee Titans are expected to unveil Mike Munchak as their new head coach this week. He coached the Titans’ offensive line for the last 14 years. He also played 12 years with the franchise and is a Hall-of-Famer.

From Ines Sainz to Brett Favre to Rex Ryan’s wife, the New York Jets just can’t avoid controversy, can they? The latest rumor regards Mark Sanchez and a racy alleged relationship. A 17-year-old high school student has declared that she has dated Sanchez. Deadspin.com reportedly has photos the girl took in Sanchez’s bedroom. If the girl consented to sex at age 17, Sanchez would not be guilty of statutory rape in New York or New Jersey.

MLB news: Orioles sign Vladimir Guerrero; Michael Young demands trade; Albert Pujols negotiations “going nowhere”

After inking Derek Lee earlier this offseason, the Baltimore Orioles nabbed another veteran bat over the weekend. They signed Vladimir Guerrero to a one-year, $8-million deal on Friday. Written off by some last season, the 36-year-old hit .300 with 29 homers and 115 RBI.

Can you blame Michael Young for wanting a trade out of Texas? When the Rangers signed third baseman Adrian Beltre, they essentially forced young to the designated hitter position. Disillusioned with his role on the team, he wants a trade. The Colorado Rockies were said to be in hot pursuit of his services but talks have hit a snag, as Colorado wants Texas to eat $20 million of the remaining $48 million on Young’s contract.

Gulp. Could the St. Louis Cardinals lose Albert Pujols in 2012? He wants a 10-year, $275-million deal or something similar to that. In other words, he wants A-Rod money. The Cardinals aren’t responding well to his demands. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that talks are “going nowhere” between Pujols and the Cards. He has imposed a spring-training deadline to work out a deal.

NBA news: Marquis Daniels hospitalized with bruised spine; Aaron Brooks suspended; Knicks back in on Melo sweepstakes?

Boston Celtics guard Marquis Daniels had a scary fall in yesterday’s game against the Orlando Magic after colliding with Gilbert Arenas. He banged his head on Arenas shoulder, injured his neck and lay motionless and face down on the court for several minutes. He was taken to hospital and has since regained movement in all his extremities. He has a bruised spine and should miss a month or longer with the injury.

Houston Rockets guard Aaron Brooks won’t play tonight against Denver. The NBA has suspended him one game for leaving the bench during Saturday’s win over Memphis. Coach Rick Adelman said “You’d have to ask him” when questioned as to why Brooks left the bench.

The Carmelo Anthony trade talks just won’t die. Now, the New York Nicks are the frontrunners to land him again. A rumored three-team trade would send Melo to New York; Corey Brewer, a first-round pick and Wilson Chandler to Denver; and Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry to Minnesota. If the trade happens, Anthony will probably sign a three-year, $65-million contract extension with the Knicks.

NHL news: Peter Forsberg officially returns

The rumors are rumors no more. Peter Forsberg is officially back with the Colorado Avalanche. He signed a contract over the weekend and will join the Avs on their current road trip. Forsberg last played in 2007-08, when he tallied 14 points in nine games.
