We can only go so long before Manny Ramirez forces himself back into the daily news. He’ll lead it off today.

MLB news: Manny Ramirez expected to join White Sox today

Manny Ramirez expected to join White Sox

After yet another bitter farewell to a team – he got ejected from his last game as a Los Angeles Dodger – Manny Ramirez appears to have a new home in Major League Baseball.

The deal isn’t official, but the Chicago White Sox are expected to officially claim the enigmatic but gifted slugger off waivers today. Manny may even end up in Chicago’s lineup tonight. He’ll bring a .311 average with eight homers and 40 RBI in 196 at-bats this season to the White Sox.

NBA news: Nuggets working hard to deal Melo; Jamal Crawford’s agents to meet with Hawks

With possible extension negotiations at an impasse, it appears the Denver Nuggets are now open to trading Carmelo Anthony. For now, they’re reportedly exploring options with three different teams.

The New Jersey Nets are a potential destination and a market that reportedly appeals to Melo. The Sacramento Kings may have interest but probably can’t acquire Anthony without gutting too much of their young talent. Minnesota is also possibly in on the action but it’s highly doubtful that Melo would OK a deal there.

Jamal Crawford isn’t necessarily ready to leave the Atlanta Hawks but he wants a clearer idea of his future. The reigning Sixth Man of the Year’s agent plans to meet with the team this week to determine whether an extension is possible. If it isn’t, Crawford may then request a trade.

NFL news: Antonio Bryant’s career in jeopardy? Donovan McNabb questionable for Week 1

The underrated, volatile Antonio Bryant looked like a good fit for the Cincinnati Bengals before chronic knee troubles crept up on him. The Bengals then signed Terrell Owens and figured they had a fine group of pass catchers with Chad Ochocinco plus rookies Jordan Shipley and Jermaine Gresham on board.

As a result, they released Bryant this weekend. Reportedly, the muscles around his surgically repaired knee just aren’t strong enough to support it. If it doesn’t get better, Bryant may not find a team all season and, worse yet, may be done as an NFLer.

Will Donovan McNabb be ready for his Washington Redskins regular-season debut in Week 1? It remains to be seen. He hasn’t practiced since he sprained his ankle in Washington’s second preseason game and he missed Friday’s preseason matchup. He won’t play in the Redskins’ preseason finale and is now questionable to start against Dallas in Week 1.

NHL news: Kariya out for season with post-concussion syndrome; Leafs sign Clarke MacArthur

Paul Kariya looked like a future Hall-of-Fame talent early in his NHL career but repeated injuries – especially concussions – derailed him. Now, it’s possible all those head injuries have finished him for good.

He announced on Friday that he’ll sit out the entire 2010-11 season. After an examination from a concussion specialist, Kariya decided his post-concussion symptoms made it too risky for him to play this year. But he’s not totally ancient at 34 years old so we may see Kariya back next season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs hope they aided their quest for a top-six forward when they signed Clarke MacArthur on Friday. The 25-year-old had 35 points last year with Buffalo and Atlanta and has scored 16 or more goals in consecutive seasons.
