Sports News – NBA news: LeBron James’ mom arrested; Quentin Richardson ejected; Dwight Howard suspended

LeBron James’ mom arrested

LeBron James’ mom is not above the law, as we learned yesterday in Miami Beach. Gloria James was arrested on misdemeanor assault charge at the Fontainebleau, an upscale hotel, after she scuffled with a valet attendant. She reportedly became angry after it took too long for her car to arrive; she reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and bloodshot eyes.

James was issued a Promise to appear in court on charges of simple battery and disorderly conduct. She was released to Miami Heat babysitter, er, executive Steve Stowe. She was arrested for a DUI in 2006 while LeBron was with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Orlando Magic are behaving like the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons of 20 years ago. Quentin Richardson was ejected for an altercation with Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Henderson. Richardson was called for a foul but thought Henderson elbowed him on the play. He then appeared to poke Henderson in the eye. Henderson then shoved Richardson; Richardson then shoved Henderson’s face with both hands. After the child-like scuffle, Richardson wound up ejected and Henderson got a technical.

Speaking of technicals – Dwight Howard has to serve another one-game suspension. He picked up his 18th technical foul of the season during Wednesday’s game after he rolled a ball away from officials.

MLB news: Manny Ramirez out for “personal reasons”

2011 hasn’t been the comeback season many people envisioned for Manny Ramirez through the first week. After a 1 for 16 start, the Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter missed Wednesday’s game for “personal reasons” and will miss Thursday’s game as well.

NFL news: Judge needs two weeks to rule on NFL labor case

NFL players have to wait at least two weeks before a judge rules on whether or not the league has wrongfully locked them out. In a St. Paul, Minnesota courtroom Wednesday, Judge Susan Nelson heard arguments from both sides. She’ll eventually determine whether or not to end or approve the lockout.

NHL news: Adam Foote to retire; Henrik Zetterberg injured; Flyers to start Bobrovsky in playoffs

Longtime stalwart Colorado Avalanche defenseman Adam Foote is set to announce his retirement on Friday. The 39-year-old is the franchise’s all-time leader in both regular-season and playoff games played.

Could the Detroit Red Wings open the playoffs without Henrik Zetterberg? He left Wednesday’s game against Carolina with a lower-body injury after getting his leg tangled up in the first period. He’ll be evaluated when the Wings return home and likely won’t play before the weekend according to coach Mike Babcock.

The Philadelphia Flyers have chosen Sergei Bobrovsky over Brian Boucher to be their starting goaltender in the playoffs. The rookie Bobrovsky is 28-13-7 with a 2.51 goals against average and .917 save percentage. Boucher is 17-10-4 with a 2.45 goals against average and .914 save percentage.

NCAA basketball news: Arrests after UConn’s title party

Pandemonium ensued after Connecticut’s national title game victory on Monday night and, after the dust settled, 12 arrests were made, including five students. The wild partiers flipped over a car and started fires in dumpsters. State police also broke up a campus party in which celebrators through bottles at them.
