Sports News – NFL news: Brandon Marshall stabbed by wife

Brandon Marshall stabbed by wife

Outspoken Miami Dolphins wideout Brandon Marshall wound up in intensive care at a Miami hospital Saturday after his wife stabbed him during a domestic dispute. Michi Nogami-Marshall was arrested early Saturday morning for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after she stabbed him in the stomach. She claims she acted in self-defense.

The knife didn’t hit any vital organs and Marshall is expected to make a full recovery in two or three weeks.

NBA news: Ankle injuries hamper Kobe, Derrick Rose; Historic night for CP3; Melo wants say in offseason decisions

Two of the NBA playoffs’ biggest stars, Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose, are battling ankle injuries. Kobe’s status is up in the air after he tweaked his left ankle during the Los Angeles Lakers’ loss to New Orleans on Sunday. He was on crutches after the game and his MRI is pending but he still expects to play in Game 5.

Derrick Rose was in a walking boot after the Pacers staved off elimination against his Chicago Bulls in Game 4. He’s a game-time decision for tonight.

Chris Paul is in elite company. Leading the Hornets past the Lakers on Sunday, he notched 27 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists to complete the triple-double. He joined Mr. Triple-Double – Oscar Robertson – as the only players in NBA playoff history with 25 points, 10 boards and 15 assists in one game.

MLB news: Albert Pujols strains hamstring; Jose Contreras, Neftali Feliz to DL; 21-game hit streak for Andre Ethier

The St. Louis Cardinals got a scare on Sunday when Albert Pujols pulled up lame while running to first base against the Cincinnati Reds. He has a mild left hamstring strain. While it doesn’t look too serious, Pujols may miss the Cards’ next three games.

The Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers both lost their closers over the weekend. The Phillies already had Brad Lidge on their shelf; now, backup Jose Contreras has joined him on the DL. He strained his right flexor pronator and may undergo an MRI to determine if the damage is more serious. Ryan Madson is expected to take over ninth-inning duties.

The Rangers placed closer and reigning American League Rookie of the Year Neftali Feliz on the 15-day DL Saturday with shoulder inflammation. He had resumed his lights-out ways of last season, converting all five of his save tries with a 1.08 ERA in 2011. It looks like the Rangers will use a closer-by-committee in his absence, led by Darren Oliver and Arthur Rhodes.

Kudos to the sports media for keeping Andre Ethier’s hit streak relatively quiet until it surpassed the 20-game mark. The L.A. Dodgers outfielder has now hit safely in 21 straight games. I barely heard a peep about it until today. Good work, fellas. Now we can start overhyping.

NHL news: Niemi, Boucher getting the nod to start in goal; Henrik Sedin admits Canucks were overconfident; Pacioretty in trouble over Twitter

Many teams have crucial goaltending decisions to make as the first-round NHL playoff series reach their Game 6s and 7s. While the Canucks may not have decided yet, the Sharks and Flyers have. San Jose will start Anti Niemi in Game 6 against the L.A. Kings despite pulling him in Game 5. Philadelphia will turn to Brian Boucher for Game 7 against Buffalo after it gave Michael Leighton a shot in Game 6.

Henrik Sedin came forward and admitted that the Canucks were overconfident after opening up a 3-0 series lead against the Chicago Blackhawks, which has now been erased. “If you’re up 3-0 in games, you think it’s going to be easy,” Sedin said. “We weren’t focused. We thought they’re going to turn the puck over and it’s going to be an easy goal. They’re too good for that.

Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty got into hot water over Twitter during the Game 5’s double-overtime thriller against the Boston Bruins. The injured winger tweeted: “This game is longer than Brad Marchand’s nose.” Twitter then exploded with angry Bruins fans defending Marchand. Pacioretty later apologized.
