2014 Cleveland Browns Schedule | Season Handicapping Picks

NFL Football – Browns Analysis

The Cleveland Browns may have finished 2013 with a 4-12 record (last place in the AFC North), but fans couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming season for one reason: Johnny Manziel.

Browns Odds [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Odds to win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX: 75/1
Odds to win the 2015 AFC Conference: 30/1
Season Win Total: 7 wins

The team selected “Johnny Football” with the 22nd pick in the NFL draft, and while the return on the investment might not come right away, the city of Cleveland has hope for a turnaround sooner rather than later.

Sunday, Sept. 7 @ Pittsburgh – Season openers haven’t been kind to the Cleveland Browns, as fans in Ohio can attest to. Things won’t be easy this time around, either, as the Browns draw a road game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Sunday, Sept. 14 vs. New Orleans – The Browns have the NFL’s sixth-easiest schedule in 2014 based on records from last year. They only play four playoff teams from 2013, and the New Orleans Saints are the first.

Sunday, Sept. 21 vs. Baltimore – The bad news: Joe Flacco is 11-1 against Cleveland in his career. The good news: The Browns got their first win against Baltimore in 11 straight contests last season.

BYE WEEK

Sunday, Oct. 5 @ Tennessee – The Tennessee Titans don’t draw a lot of intrigue for most teams leaguewide, but in this one, there’s the storyline of Cleveland’s defensive coordinator from 2013 no on the opposite sideline.

Sunday, Oct. 12 vs. Pittsburgh – Two of the Browns’ first five contests are against the Pittsburgh Steelers. What a way to start the year!

Sunday, Oct. 19 @ Jacksonville – Blake Bortles vs. Johnny Football. Chances are, it’ll take more than half a season to find this matchup on an NFL field, but the intrigue is there and what a showdown it will be if we actually see it in 2014.

Sunday, Oct. 26 vs. Oakland – Cleveland has gone 8-3 in the last 11 meetings with the Oakland Raiders. Both teams had high draft picks in 2014, but it should be the Browns who are more improved than in 2013.

Sunday, Nov. 2 vs. Tampa Bay – Tampa Bay has a whole new staff, and while Lovie Smith will make most headlines throughout the year, the Browns have two former assistants on their sideline.

Thursday, Nov. 6 @ Cincinnati – The Cincinnati Bengals played two very different games against the Browns last season. The first was a 17-6 victory for Cleveland, while the second was a 41-20 win for Cincinnati.

Sunday, Nov. 16 vs. Houston – Nov. 16 will feature the first time running back Ben Tate takes the field opposite the Houston Texans. It will also be the first time Cleveland gets a first look at Jadeveon Clowney, the first pick in the 2014 draft.

Sunday, Nov. 23 @ Atlanta – One week before this one, the Browns face the Houston Texans—a team that played horribly in 2013 who could realistically have a quick turnaround. Throw Atlanta into that same category.

Sunday, Nov. 30 @ Buffalo – Cleveland gets a bad rap when it comes to success. That said, Buffalo hasn’t been to the postseason in 14 years, but it now has Sammy Watkins – the No. 1 wide receiver taken in the 2014 draft.

Sunday, Dec. 7 vs. Indianapolis – Johnny Manziel isn’t Andrew Luck, but the storylines will fly if and when the two face off in this late-season battle.

Sunday, Dec. 14 vs. Cincinnati – Cincinnati lost two players to the Browns this offseason: Andrew Hawkins and fullback Chris Pressley. This will be Round 2 for them to show what they can do against their former team.

Sunday, Dec. 21 @ Carolina – With the season wrapping up, things aren’t getting easier for Cleveland. Carolina will be a defensive problem for the Browns, and that’s only one concern if Cam Newton is having a pro-bowl type season.

Sunday, Dec. 28 @ Baltimore – When the Browns play the Ravens on the road, typically it’s a good game. Unfortunately for Cleveland, it is just 3-11 in those games.
