Holland vs. Brazil Free Betting Pick & 2014 World Cup Preview

Brazil vs Netherlands Prediction – July 12

Pride on the Line as Brazil Meets Netherlands for Third Place

Although this is the weekend game that no team wants to be in, the third place match of World Cup 2014 is set with the host Brazilians looking to dim the memory of the worst international thrashing of their long history and the Netherlands trying to regain a little form that saw them storm out of the gate as fast as any team in the tournament. It is a matchup that many have been waiting for – but most expected the winner of this game to be hoisting the World Cup trophy on Sunday.

Did the loss of Neymar and Thiago Silva mean that much to Brazil? Seriously? The hosts looked like a shell of their former selves against Germany – their depth and their hearts were certainly questioned in the 7-1 loss. Brazil’s chore is to pick themselves up off the mat and give their rabid home town fans one more thing to cheer about in what has been an astounding World Cup 2014.

Up front players like Fred, Hulk and Bernard absolutely have to be better in the absence of Neymar and Oscar must be more visible that he was against Germany – although he did score in the waning moments of that game. Brazil’s offense was shockingly inept in the semi-final – something they should be motivated to correct Saturday.

The attack, on paper looks fine and the defense will definitely be improved with Thiago Silva back in the fold! The Brazilians gave the world a clinic on how NOT to defend against Germany. The semi-final was a debacle of epic proportions – one that the home town guys are unlikely to repeat Saturday!

The Netherlands emerged as one of the most potent offenses in the tournament but the goals stopped flowing and subsequently, the Dutch are playing for third, rather than first. The Netherlands has gone to penalties in two straight games ahead of Saturday’s match while failing to score in the last 240 minutes of game action – not good!

Arjen Robben started to find some opportunities late against Argentina – he has been seemingly the lone threat for the Dutch in the last couple of matches. Robin van Persie has disappeared – he and Robben have both been held of the score sheet for three games now – not a good sign for the pair that looked to be locked in an early battle for the Golden Boot. Memphis Depay and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar are decent options for a Netherlands squad desperate to find some goals.

Defensively, expect the Dutch to throw out the conservative defensive plan they had against Argentina and to employ the more aggressive 4-3-3 formation that made them successful – up until the knockout stage. With little to lose, expect the Netherlands to throw caution to the wind and to adopt a game plan similar to the one that saw them destroy Spain in their first game.

Betting Prediction:

The winner of this game will likely the more motivated of the two squads – that distinction belongs to Brazil – a team that owes its fans something to cheer about. Both of these teams played arguably their worst games in the semi-finals – there is nowhere to go but UP. Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has a ton on the line Saturday – expect his players to respond for him and to rally around the embattled skipper. There is a lot of work to be done in order to cure their National pain, but Brazil takes a tiny step Saturday with a spirited win.

Pick: Brazil +115
