However, things have changed now that Neymar is out for the rest of the tournament with a back injury. It is a crippling blow on the talent side but also gives the Brazilians an out should they fail.
Maybe with a deep breath they can start performing like they thought we would without him.
There are other talented players who can step up.
Likely in part due to the Neymar injury this is the first game in the tournament that Brazil is not the favourite with the numbers just slightly shading to Germany.

It is not a huge surprise that Germany has made it this far at the World Cup but their individual performance save for a 4-0 drubbing of Portugal have not been all that impressive – especially the fact that they squeaked by Algeria in the round of 16.
As good as the German program is they have not had a ton of success against Brazil with just two victories in 9 contests.
One of those was the last time they played back in 2011. The Germans have been on a roll but this is a tough one.
The Germans are supposed to have a strong offense but after that explosion against Portugal they scored only 6 goals in the next 4 contests.
Now that Neymar is not a factor I wonder if we will see a German team that will take more chances knowing that if they can get a lead they can control the game from there. They have not lost a game during the current season.
Due to the circumstances I think we are going to see things open up in this one. As a result I think the over might be the strongest play and I am shading the result to what I hope will be an inspired home side.
As you can tell from the odds really the winner is a toss up.
