MLS League 2011 Gambling Predictions | Seattle v Los Angeles

The 2011 MLS season will open on March 15 when the Seattle Sounders FC host Western Conference rival Los Angeles at Qwest Field.

The league announced all home openers on Monday. This is the third straight year the Sounders have been chosen to host the first league game of the season. Seattle played New York in 2009 and Philadelphia last season.

Seattle set a league attendance record last year, averaging 36,173 fans, but has disappointed after qualifying for the postseason in each of its first two seasons, failing to even advance out of the first round each time.

Even though the Sounders have been impressive, one opponent that has always gotten the better of them has been the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Seattle lost all four meetings against the boys from Tinsel Town last year, including both games of their Western Conference semifinal playoff series. Combined with two regular- season meetings, L.A. outscored Seattle, 10-2, in those four games.

Veteran goalkeeper Kasey Keller will look to keep LA’s star studded line up off the board, allowing striker Blaise NKufo and forward Fredy Montero to do their work offensively.

Easier said than done as they face a Galaxy side that return almost intact and have their sights set on nothing else but an MLS Cup this season after falling to FC Dallas in the Western Conference final last year.

Led by U.S. star Landon Donovan and former English captain David Beckham, the Galaxy also bolstered its goal scoring capabilities by signing Juan Pablo Angel as the club’s third designated player this offseason.

Angel replaces Edson Buddle, who left MLS to join German Bundesliga 2 side Ingolstadt. Angel has 58 goals over the last four seasons.

Matt’s Free Prediction: With Beckham in the final year of his five-year contract and coach Bruce Arena dealing with an ageing lineup, the time is now for L.A. to win its first title in the Beckham era. Seattle would be a great place to start with the Galaxy never losing in the Emerald City.

A tough home field atmosphere will not make it easy, but I think the LA firepower will be too much for the Sounders to handle in this one.
