Manchester City will look close the gap on Arsenal while maintaining their distance from fourth place Tottenham, when they host Fulham at Eastlands on Sunday.

Fulham, who is currently 13th on the table are just four points from the drop zone and have won just six times in 25 league visits to Manchester City. However, the side’s recent record at Manchester Stadium is impressive with three wins, three draws, and only two defeats in eight Premier League visits. That’s not good news for Roberto Mancini’s men who are currently third in the Premier League, and need to make up eight points if they are to catch top table Manchester United.

The visitors have drawn 13 games, the most in the Premier League and now face a City side that has kept 12 clean sheets in this season’s Premier League, the joint highest, with Chelsea.

Fulham are unbeaten in three, but were handed their FA Cup exit at the hands of Bolton last weekend.

Cottagers boss Mark Hughes will focus on an upset as he returns to his former employers, where he was sacked in December 2009, and will look for a repeat of last season’s meeting. Fulham roared back from a two-goal deficit to claim a draw thanks to a 68th minute equalizer from US-born midfielder Clint Dempsey, who leads the side with nine goals this season.

As for City, the Blues last league outing ended with a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford. However, they rebounded nicely with more encouraging results in FA Cup and Europa League action, and will look to build on last weekend’s 5-0 cup thrashing of Notts County, and a 3-0 victory over Aris Salonika midweek. The two wins booked them a spot in the Europa League last 16.

The reverse fixture at Craven Cottage back in November saw City go home with a 4-1 victory.

Carlos Tevez, Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta gave City a three-goal advantage by the 35th minute. Tevez scored again before Zoltan Gera claimed a consolation goal for Fulham.

City will be without No.2 goalkeeper Shay Given after he was ruled out for the season with a shoulder problem earlier this week as well as Vincent Kompany, who is a major doubt for Sunday’s encounter after limping out of the first half of the Aris clash with a hip injury.

Striker, Bobby Zamora who returned from five months out with a broken leg in Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Bolton, suffered a fresh injury blow on Friday and is doubtful to appear for Fulham.

The Blues’ formidable record against Fulham should give them some added confidence in this one, and without Zamora, the Cottagers while need Dempsey, who has scored just a single goal since Jan. 26, to step up, or they could struggle in finding the back of the net.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Manchester City 2, Fulham 0
