With just three matches remaining Liverpool will try to tighten its grip on a Europa placing as they head to Craven Cottage to take on a Fulham side that will attempt to secure their highest ever points tally in the Barclays Premier League on Monday afternoon.

After last weekend’s win over Newcastle lifted the Reds into fifth place, their highest position of the campaign, Reds’ boss Kenny Dalglish’s future was still unclear as ownership has delayed his being named manager on a permanent basis in the wake of locking up the club’s involvement in continental competition next season.

To do that Dalglish’s men need to win their battle with Tottenham Hotspur for fifth place in the Premier League, with next weekend’s visit of Spurs to Anfield likely to prove significant.
Even with three games to play, the 60-year old Scot knows there are still many variables that could affect the final outcome.

One of those is their bout with Fulham.

The Cottagers have enjoyed their own resurgence since January, thanks in part to a very good home record that has fashioned six wins and a draw. During this run of seven games, only Blackburn has managed to breach the Cottagers’ defense. Victory against Liverpool would equal a club record four consecutive Premier League home wins, last set from January to February 2006.

Fulham will have a good opportunity of dashing the Reds’ hopes, coning into Monday‘s matinee on the heels of sealing their top-flight status last weekend with a 3-0 win at Sunderland.

Manager Mark Hughes will determined to guide them to a top-10 finish and set them a target of winning all of their remaining games, a feat which would see them beat their best ever Premier League points tally of 53.

They will get a much-needed boost as Clint Dempsey and Brede Hangeland are back in contention for this game. Dempsey, the Cottagers’ all-time top scorer in the Premier League – leads the team with 13 goals (12 league), while Hangeland who missed the win at Sunderland will add depth to Fulham’s backline.

That will be just in time as they face a Liverpool squad that has scored in all their Premier League fixtures (17) in 2011. Dirk Kuyt has scored eight goals in the club’s last seven league matches and leads the club with 14 goals (12 league).

Liverpool’s most recent trip to Craven Cottage ended in a 3-1 loss in October 2009. However, that is the Reds’ only defeat in the last seven meetings between the sides as Fulham has failed to score in six of their last seven meetings with the Reds.

With the return of several key offensive players on both sides, this match should prove to be a goal scorer’s fiesta with both teams settling for a draw while keeping things interesting in the top half of the table.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Fulham 1, Liverpool 1
