With the shockingly early departure of Group favorite Spain, the Dutch and the Chileans will both move on to the round of 16 but the loser of Monday’s game will likely be matched up against Brazil in their first game of the knockout stage. Chile will need a win while the Netherlands will need just a draw to secure first place – the Dutch have the luxury of a huge goal differential edge on Chile.
The Netherlands got a bit of a scare against Australia in their last match but eventually prevailed 3-2. But the news isn’t all that great following that win – Robin van Persie who scored again against Australia will be suspended after his second yellow card of the tournament – his three goals, his fire power and his leadership will certainly be missed.
Look for Klass-Jan Huntelaar or Jeremain Lens to take van Persie’s place – a step down for sure but not as great a drop-off as one would think!
Arjen Robben and his three goals thus far and youngster Memphis Depay still exist as a dangerous duo up front. The Netherlands have scored eight times so far in the World Cup – impressive indeed.
Question marks exist at the back end for the Netherlands – Australia exposed this team a tad – something that Chile will have taken note of. Defender Bruno Martins Indi sustained a concussion at the end of the Australia game and is in danger of missing Monday’s match – his omission along with van Persie’s is something to keep an eye on for sure.

Chile has been impressive in their two games thus far. After a terrific2-0 win against Spain, Chile is becoming a sexy pick to go a ways in this tournament. Their pressure tactics and uber-quick attack has been a nightmare for their opposition so far – no reason to think they hold back Monday.
Chile’s speed has resulted in frequent mistakes by their opposition’s defenders and when given the opportunity, the offense has converted.
Although Chile doesn’t boast the same marquee names as some of the other teams in the tournament, perhaps no team has been as unified as the Chileans. Four different players have scored Chile’s four goals while Chile’s perceived weakness on defense hasn’t been much of a story so far.
Juventus star Arturo Vidal, who is sitting on one yellow card already and is slowly battling back to fitness after injury and Internacional`s Charles Aranguiz both skipped training on Friday – if they sit Monday against the Netherlands, you would have to give the slight advantage to the Dutch.

I absolutely love both teams in this game – both have been outstanding and both should be very motivated in this game.
A date with Brazil certainly isn’t favorable! The play here looks like the Over – 2 1/2 goals. Monday’s game has all the makings of a shootout with the huge questions on the back end for both teams.
