The Champions League is down to the knockout phase and the first leg of the home-and-away first round matches begin February 15th. While Inter Milan is the defending champion they have a killer first round match up and 2009 winner Barcelona has the best odds to win the Champions League this season.

2011 Champions League Futures and Odds

1. Barcelona (+225)

The 2009 Champions League winners have the best odds to win it this year, but it will not be an easy road since they have to face Arsenal in the first round. Barca is leading Spain’s La Liga and they have a great offense led by 2-time FIFA Player of the Year Lionel Messi and their defense is stingy, to say the least. They know how to win and their attack, led by Messi, David Villa, and Pedro has combined for 47 goals in La Liga this season.

2. Real Madrid (+350)

Real Madrid not only has the 2nd best odds to win the Champions League, but they are also in 2nd place in La Liga behind Barcelona. They face Lyon in the first round and it may be a little time for payback since the French squad eliminated them in the Champions League last season. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored the most goals in La Liga this season and he will be counted on in the Champions League matches. Can G Iker Casillas duplicate his great play in the World Cup in this competition?

3. Chelsea (+500)

Chelsea flew out of the gates in the Premier League, but they have since cooled off. However, they made the biggest deal before the transfer window closed signing F Fernando Torres from Liverpool. If he can gel with fellow strikers Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba the Blues will be tough to beat. G Petr Cech has had a stellar season, but Chelsea’s offense needs to wake up. They have one of the easier first round matches facing FC Copenhagen.

4. Manchester United (+800)

Man U is in first place in the Premier League even though star F Wayne Rooney has struggled all season. They face Marseille in the first round and in the history of the Champions League they are 22-2 against French clubs. Their defense is rock solid and F Dimitar Berbatov leads the Premier League in goals, but he will need some help up front in this competition.

5. Arsenal (+1400)

Arsenal has a solid squad, but can they get by Barcelona in the first round? Not likely. Samir Nasri is their leading goal scorer and he has been banged up lately. Barcelona knocked out the Gunners in last year’s Champions League quarterfinals and unless Arsenal plays a stellar defensive home-and-away series they will lose again.

6. Tottenham (+1600)

Tottenham has been a surprise in the Champions League this season and they already beat Inter Milan at home in the group stage. Rafael Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale are dangerous up front, but their midfield and defense will have to play well for them to advance far. They face a much-improved AC Milan squad in the first round.

7. Bayern Munich (+1600)

Last season’s finals will be a first round match up this season with Bayern facing Inter Milan in the first round. The German power did not begin the Bundesliga campaign well, but have stormed back to defend their title. Mario Gomez leads the team in goals in the German league, but for Bayern to win it all their defense will have to carry them.

8. Inter Milan and AC Milan (+2500)

Both AC Milan and defending champion Inter Milan have the same odds even though they are having different seasons. AC Milan has had a resurgence and they are atop the Italy Serie A. While Inter has been killed by the injury bug they are getting healthy and they are still in the Italy Serie A race. Both elite clubs have tough first round match ups with AC Milan facing Tottenham and Inter Milan facing Bayern Munich. For AC Milan to win another Champions League they will need to shore up their midfield and for Inter to repeat as champions they simply need their stars of G Júlio César, MF Thiago Motta, MF Wesley Sneijder, F Samuel Eto’o, and F Diego Milito to stay healthy.

Here are the Champions League Futures at Betus.com as of February 5th.

Why all these hype all the time about English teams. The only team that is probabbly better than Inter is Barcelona. Inter can beat any English team because i do not care what youy guys think Etoo is better than any striker in England. Wesley is healthy, pazzini is in great form ,Maicom has regained his form ,Ceasar is the best keeper in the world. The chances for Inter to be champion is better than any other team apart from Barca.
