NFL Week 12 Picks – Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans
Sunday, November 29 th – 1:00 PM ET
Reliant Stadium

NFL Point Spread: Colts -3, O/U: 47

The 10-0 Colts have looked anything but perfect the past couple of weeks. After just barely scratching out a win against New England (thanks to Bill Belichick’s now infamous fourth-and-two call), the Colts had another close victory last week, 17-15 over Baltimore.

Great teams find out ways to win, and the Colts are certainly a great team, but they’re showing chinks in the armor, and that first loss of the season seems to be coming any week now.

The Texans may be the most emotionally drained teams in the NFL right now. Two straight games have been lost with identical scores of 20-17. Both times Kris Brown had chances to tie the game late with a field goal, both times those field goals missed. Those kinds of losses really have negative effects on teams, especially young teams aching to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

What The Colts Have To Do To Win

The Colts played excellent red zone defense last week, forcing the Ravens to six field goal attempts in six tries. Last time they played Houston, they allowed Andre Johnson to catch 10 balls, but didn’t give him any room to run and he failed to score. The Colts defense is playing a “bend but don’t break” style of football, and so far it’s been working. But eventually a team will break them, and the Colts will be forced to adjust. But as long as Peyton Manning is under center, they will score.

What The Texans Have To Do To Win

The Texans offense has struggled a bit with the loss of tight end Owen Daniels, but QB Matt Schaub is still having a career year. Close to 3,000 yards passing and already a career-high 19 touchdowns, Schaub will be relied on heavily for the rest of the season to push Houston into playoff contention. The Colts secondary is banged up, so the Texans must find mismatches between the defensive backs and star receiver Andre Johnson. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Texans always play hard against Indianapolis, but own a paltry 1-14 record against the Colts since coming into the league in 2002. No doubt that stat is in the mind of some players. They need to ignore it if they want any chance of winning.

Outlook & Pick

The Colts may be struggling, but there are lots of teams that would love to have the Colts problems if it means owning a 10-0 record. Indy can take the division this week with a win coupled with a Jacksonville loss. Houston has talent on both sides of the ball but they just may be too weak right now, even against a hurt Colts defense. Indy’s 14-1 record against Houston gives them the mental edge, and until the Texans can prove they can beat the Colts, no one should assume they will.

Pick: Colts -3 & under 47

Prop Betting: Team To Score First And Score In First 7.5 Minutes

Neither team is going to break out early. These two teams are both trying to restart their running games, and will spend the early parts of the matchup trying to establish just that. Later in the game, however, the game could open up.
