If that NFL betting headline doesn’t grab your attention, nothing can. I’m telling you to pick the Detroit Lions, a team that hasn’t won’t a football game since the 2007 season, against the Washington Redskins this week. Am I insane? Maybe, but here are some reasons why the Lions are good NFL picks this week – some more significant than others.

The Lions are six-point underdogs at home. Even if the Redskins are the better team, six points is a lot for a 1-1 team to cover on the road. The Lions’ “D” should get a boost at Ford Field from the fans.

The Lions ran the ball against Minnesota. Last week, against what many online sports betting experts call the best run defense in the NFL, the Lions moved the chains on the ground to the tune of 129 rushing yards. If Kevin Smith and company can handle the Williams wall, maybe he can slip past Albert Haynesworth and the Washington front seven.

Washington isn’t getting to the quarterback. The Redskins are still plagued by their inability to pressure opposing pivots. They have just two sacks in two games. If Matt Stafford doesn’t get hit too much, he’ll have time to uncork a few deep balls Calvin Johnson’s way.

Washington’s offense looks anemic so far. The Lions stayed reasonably competitive against the ridiculously good Saints offense and a solid Viking unit. The Redskins, however, have scored the second-fewest points in the league through two weeks and Jason Campbell just can’t find a reliable red-zone target after Chris Cooley. Even Santana Moss has been invisible.

Washington BARELY handled the St. Louis Rams at home. Really, Washington? 9-7? Zero touchdowns at home to the St. Louis Rams? How can we trust Washington as a six-point road underdog when it squeaked past the horrible Rams by two points at home?

Are the Lions a lock to beat the spread? Of course not. But it’s tough to feel confident in Washington winning by six when we can list five good reasons to pick Detroit.
