BCS Championship Game Odds & Pick

The Florida Gators and Oklahoma Sooners battle it out on Thursday night for top honors in the 2008 – 2009 College Football Season. The Gators had to fight tooth and nail to get into this game after losing to Ole Miss in the third week of the season. A victory against the less than impressive Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl signaled that Florida is ready to take on the Sooners for the championship trophy. Sports betting fans have to be impressed by Florida. The Gators went 12 and 1 straight-up during the regular season and 10 and 2 against the BetUS online betting spread.

Of course, the Oklahoma Sooners have been just as good. College football betting fans will find it hard to look past the Sooners’ record of 12 and 1 straight-up and 10 and 2 against the BetUS online wagering spread. The reason that football betting fans will find it difficult to discount the Sooners chances in this game is because the Sooners scored over 60 points in 5 games this season. That’s phenomenal.

Here are the BetUS online sportsbook betting odds for this game.

Florida Gators – 4 – 110 – 175 O 70 – 110
Oklahoma Sooners + 4 – 110 + 155 U 70 – 110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.

The Florida Gators are 15 and 3 against the spread in their last 18 games versus a team with a winning record.
The Florida Gators are 20 and 6 against the spread in their last 26 games overall.
The Oklahoma Sooners are 7 and 1 against the spread in their last 8 non-conference games.
The Oklahoma Sooners are 1 and 4 against the spread in their last 5 bowl games.

The Sooners score at will against most teams but I have that suspicious feeling that they are running up against a defense with more speed than they have ever seen before.

The problem in assessing which team is better is that no real clues can be gained from the trends and even more importantly no real clues can be gained from the conferences.

Well, maybe. There’s no doubt that the Big-12 has performed under expectations during this Bowl Season. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech both lost straight-up as favorites while neither Missouri nor Texas covered the spread. For the SEC, Florida’s conference, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, LSU and Kentucky all won straight-up as underdogs.

That’s the first reason to like the Florida Gators. The second reason to like the Florida Gators is that they are, without a doubt, led by the toughest player in college football in Tim Tebow. Last year’s Heisman Trophy winner is an absolute college football god. The man told the press that he and Florida would do no wrong the rest of the season after the loss to Ole Miss and that’s exactly what Florida has done – – nothing wrong.

For Oklahoma, there’s no doubt that they have a sterling offense. Five games during a single season of scoring over 60 points is flat-out amazing, but Oklahoma’s defense leaves something to be desired. The Sooners allowed the Washington Huskies, the worst team in college football this season, to score two touchdowns. They also allowed Baylor to score 17, Oklahoma State to score 41 and both Texas A&M and Nebraska to score 28.

By contrast, Florida’s defense has been very, very good this season. Florida’s D held Miami to 3 points, LSU to 21, Kentucky to 5, Georgia to 10, Florida State to 15, and a fully healthy Alabama team to 20.

So in a game where possession of the ball and control of the clock might be essential for victory which team makes the most sense against the BetUS online wagering spread? The Florida Gators. They have Tim Tebow on their side to help control the clock and they have a better defense.

Florida should win this game by more than the 4 point spread.

Florida vs. OU Prediction:

The online football bet that I will be making in the BCS Championship, and I know I’ve changed my mind from what I previously thought, is on the Florida Gators to beat the Oklahoma Sooners by more than the 4 point online betting spread.
