2014 PGA OHL Classic at Mayakoba Betting Odds & Preview

This Week’s PGA Tour Predictions!

The PGA pros head to Mexico this week to play the 2014 OHL Classic at Mayakoba. El Camaleon Golf Club at Mayakoba will play 6,987 yards with three par 5s, four par 3s and 11 par 4s on its par 71 layout.

Traditionally it has been accuracy off the tee that has prevailed over length. Last year El Camaleon Golf Club was the third easiest par 71 played.

Good ball strikers will have the edge – par 4 scoring average is another stat that will come into play as well. Of course, a hot putter never hurts!

So who should we keep an eye on this week – let’s take a look.

OHL Classic at Mayakoba Favorites:

Harris English 22/1

The defending champion here has not looked good lately – a T16 at the Shriner’s was his only cut made in three events this young season. Best to look elsewhere this week.

[dfads params=’groups=526&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Robert Streb 22/1

Answer this question – who is the current FedEx Cup points leader? If you guessed Robert Streb you’d be right! He is #1 in all-around so far on TOUR and has finished inside the top 10 in his last two tournaments. He makes his debut in this tournament but enters in very good form.

Chris Stroud 25/1

Hasn’t been great but is worth a mention based on his incredible course history here – top 5s in his last three trips – a fourth, T5 and T3. His best result this season so far was a T39 at the CIMB Classic. If you go on course history alone – Stroud is worth a look. Otherwise it may be best to stay away.

OHL Classic at Mayakoba Contenders:

Charles Howell III 28/1

Howell III loves this course – 5-for-5 with four top 20s including a T6 last year. He has also started this season well – top 20s in two of three starts.

[dfads params=’groups=63738&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

He loves another tournament that is similar in every way to this event – the Sony. Howell has the combination of course history and present form to make some noise this week for sure.

Brad Stuard 33/1

Is another player with a good course history here – a solo second last year and a T2 in 2010. He hadn’t looked good in quite some time before a T13 at the CIMB Classic two weeks ago but seems to be in OK shape heading into his favorite track.

Jason Bohn 33/1

Finished third in this event last year and prepped for this year’s edition with a very good T2 at the Sanderson Farms Championship last week. His other appearance here was a T19 in 2011. While I like Bohn better in the sleeper role, he’s catching nobody by surprise this year.

OHL Classic at Mayakoba Sleepers (50/1 or higher):

Will MacKenzie 50/1

Finished 12th here last year and has looked good so far this young season – a loss in a playoff at The McGladrey Classic two weeks ago speaks to his present form. He shot a closing round 65 in the last round here last year which shows his affinity for this track.

Spencer Levin 66/1

Levin has started this season well – a T21 and a T10 in his first two starts of the new season. His stats line up perfectly here as well – sixth in driving accuracy and third in par-4 scoring average. He is the TOUR’s third leading ball striker and he has some course history here as well – losing in a playoff in 2011. The stars seem to be aligned for Levin this week.

OHL Classic at Mayakoba Free Pick:

The pick this week is Charles Howell III at 28/1. He loves the tropical climates, he loves the wind and he has a tremendous history here.

The Sleeper is Spencer Levin at 66/1 – his game perfectly suits this track and he has looked too good this year not to take a look at.
