2014 PGA Hero World Challenge Betting Preview

This Week’s PGA Tour Predictions!

The big news ahead of this week’s 2014 Hero World Challenge is the return of Tiger Woods back to the golf world – as host for this week’s event! Just 18 of the best golfers in the world will tee it up this week on the 7,544 yard par 71 Isleworth Golf & CC in Windermere, Florida. It should be fun.

Will the white-hot Jordan Spieth continue his impressive run of will jet-lag and an Australian Open hangover ruin his chances? Will Woods himself be fit and ready to go against players that have been active throughout the offseason?

With only 18 players participating, I won’t name a sleeper this week – I will talk about some of the favorites and some of the best value on the board.

Let’s take a look at some of the names to keep an eye out for this week and what could play out in this intriguing event.

2014 Hero World Challenge Favorites:

Henrik Stenson 13/2

Stenson is in one of those streaks that makes him awfully tough to bet against – a win in Dubai last time out followed a second place finish behind Rory McIlroy in the Race To Dubai and a third recently in Turkey. He has climbed to #2 in the World Golf Rankings and is the hottest of the entries this week. His ball striking is sensational, his long iron play is masterful and his present form is off the charts. Translation – Stenson is the rightful favorite here!

Bubba Watson 7/1

Hit-or-miss guy has three wins and three seconds in this calendar year and had a win last month at the HSBC Champions in Shanghai. Bubba seems to save his best for the bigger events and against a top field he is worthy of mention. Watson certainly has the length to contend and should be a confident guy after a win just a month ago.

Justin Rose 7/1

Played well to end his European Tour season – a T2 in the final tournament and a third in the Race to Dubai. He has played this track a number of times and is as familiar as anyone here with this course.

2014 Hero World Challenge Contenders:

Jordan Spieth 9/1

Was absolutely remarkable in the Australian Open last week in winning by six strokes. Even Spieth said it was the best he’s ever played! He has a win on this track in the past – the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in 2011 and if a return flight to the land down under in a week’s time doesn’t slow him down Spieth will be right near the top again – it’s a good thing he’s 21!

Rickie Fowler 10/1

The better the field the better Fowler plays it seems. He played the 2013 Tavistock Cup here and also played Collegiate Invite twice on this track so he is familiar what lies ahead. He has nine top 10s in his last 10 starts and could be a factor again.

Graeme McDowell 14/1

Tavistock Cup regular is the only multiple winner of this event other than the host and is coming off a T3 at the WGC-HSBC Champions a month ago. He knows this course, has been good at times lately and he has the putter to make some noise in this one.

Tiger Woods 14/1

Woods is worthy of a mention because he has had immense success here – he once shot a 59 on this very track! Any time Tiger tees it up in Florida he’s a threat. Add in his love for this course and the realization that this is his first tournament in a lifetime seems minor! A new coach and a healthy body could see a return to the old Tiger!

Patrick Reed 30/1

Not a big fan? Me neither but he is good value here! He is only here because of the withdrawal of Jim Furyk but he has the game to contend. He has a T26 (CIMB Classic) and a T22 (WGC-HSBC Champions) so far this season and was the American’s best player at the Ryder Cup – seriously! He loves Florida and could be there when it is all said and done!

2014 Hero World Challenge Pick

:

The pick this week is an obvious one – unfortunately. Henrik Stenson at 13/2 is just too hot to ignore! His all around game is terrific and his putting has been off the charts.

Further down, Patrick Reed could be the best value on the board at 30/1. He has proven to be a big-time golfer – this week he has further chance to back up enormous ego!
