2014 PGA TOUR Coca-Cola Championship Betting Odds & Preview

FedEx Cup Playoff Prediction

Another PGA betting sleeper came through for me last week – that makes three since March! If you would have listened to me, Matt Every would have paid you 80-1 at the Arnold Palmer, Tim Clark would have rewarded you 75-1 at the Canadian Open and most recently Billy Horschel would have paid you off at 66-1 odds last week at the BMW Championship.

This week the top 29 FedEx Cup point getters head to Atlanta for the 2014 TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola – the culmination in the year long FedEx Cup. A $10 million bonus goes to the season champion – a ton is on the line!

The top 5 could all win the bonus with an outright win while anyone sitting outside the top 5 will need a crazy set of scenarios in order to claim the prize – too convoluted to get into here!

East Lake will play 7,307 yards and was the second easiest par 70 on TOUR last season – the winner is going to have to go low! This tournament has belonged to elite ball strikers whose putters heat up at the right time – we can expect more of the same this week.

Let’s take a look

2014 TOUR Championship Favorites:

Rory McIlroy 4/1

Rory is the best player on the planet by far and despite two four-putts he finished T8 last week. Four-putts made me feel good about my game – thanks Rory! He finished T10 in his only previous start here and is in terrific form to say the least.

Adam Scott 10/1

Even when he isn’t on top of his game – he’s still good – no worse than T16 in his last nine starts. Scott is an elite ball striker who will be in contention this week. – guaranteed. My only fear is that others have a little more spark than Adam.

Rickie Fowler 11/1

Is coming off a T4 at the BMW and now has seven top 10s in his last eight starts. Fowler is knocking on the door and should be in the hunt this week.

2014 TOUR Championship Contenders:

Jim Furyk 12/1

Something has gotta give for Furyk – he’s due – and has been for a while. His last win on TOUR came back in 2010 on this track. Furyk is coming off another good performance – a T4 at the BMW was his fifth top 10 in his last seven starts. I have picked Furyk a few times in the past – It’s about time it pays off!

Sergio Garcia 12/1

Suffered the dreaded snowman last week and still finished T4 but there is no doubt about Sergio’s current form. He was T9 here last year – his fourth top 10 in eight tries on this track.

Jordan Spieth 18/1

Looked good last week en route to a T8 at Cherry Hills – we all saw something in his game. He was T2 in his only start on this track – last year. Something tells me Spieth has a good week.

Billy Horschel 20/1

There’s no hotter player right now. Although I usually don’t like guys that won the week before but Horschel is the exception. He had a T2 in Boston and followed that with a win last week at the BMW. Nothing in his game suggests a drop-off is imminent.

Tour Championship Betting Sleepers (50/1 or higher):

Morgan Hoffman 66/1

With such a small field there isn’t a whole lotta value out there expect for perhaps Morgan Hoffman. He is coming off a third in the BMW and looks a lot like Billy Horschel did last week at this time – scorching hot at exactly the right time. He plays East Lake for the first time but off a 62 and a 63 on the weekend at the BMW – he looks like by far the best value on the board.

2014 TOUR Championship Free Golf Pick:

Yup – going with Jim Furyk at 12-1 odds this week on a course that was the scene of his last victory on TOUR. Karma pays Jim and his backers off this week!

My sleeper is Morgan Hoffman at 66/1 – and why not. He lit up the BMW on the weekend and could carry his momentum into this week.
