PGA Betting – 2012 Canadian Open Tournament Predictions
The 2012 Canadian Open comes our way this week from the Hamilton Golf and Country Club – host of this event four times in the past.
2012 RBC Canadian Open
Location: Ancaster, Ontario, Canada
Course: Hamilton Golf and Country Club
Date: Jul 26-29, 2012
Total Purse: US $ 5,200,000
Winner’s Share: US $ 1,080,000 (21% of total purse)
Defending Champion: Sean O’Hair ($936,000)
It is a somewhat predictably watered down field after an exhausting British Open last week and it is a course that favors accuracy, ball striking and the always important strokes gained putting.
Ernie Els, an RBC guy will fulfill his commitments and attend this week along with the other RBC sponsored guys in the field – they should all contend! Let`s take a look at some of the names to watch this week at the RBC Canadian Open.
The Favorites:
Matt Kuchar 11/1
Kuchar was T9 at the Open last week – his seventh Top 10 this year and his tour leading 22nd straight cut made – talk about consistency! He is 23rd in ball-striking (35th in fairways hit), 19th in greens in regulation and second in adjusted scoring average – perfect for this course. Kuchar never gets rattled and is a decent bet after a taxing week in Britain.
Hunter Mahan 14/1
Is the #1 player on TOUR in ball striking and he is ninth in driving accuracy. He’s third in greens hit and 16th in scoring average – no wonder he has won twice this year. He was T19 at the British and comes to Canada playing very well.
Jim Furyk 16/1
Won this event last time it was held at this track. Furyk certainly has what it takes to contend in Hamilton – fifth on the PGA TOUR in fairways hit, 54th in greens and fourth in adjusted scoring. Furyk is a solid ball striker – he is tailor made for this course.
The Contenders:
Ernie Els 22/1
It is tough to tout a golfer to win back to back tournaments, especially one as emotional as last week – letdowns are almost inevitable! But Els is a rare player that has won two starts in a row! Els is calm, he’s dangerous and he’s facing a somewhat watered down field this week!
Brandt Snedeker 22/1
Had a brutal weekend at the British and eventually finished T3 – not too shabby. He is a mad man around the greens – eighth in scrambling, fifth in Strokes Gained-Putting and ninth in birdie average. The bombers won’t have the advantage this week which puts Snedeker in the mix!
Charl Schwartzel 25/1
Hasn’t done much this year at all and is coming off a rib injury. He’s a big name that isn’t playing like one at the moment.
Bo Van Pelt 33/1
Missed the cut last week and will certainly be out for revenge! He has six top 10s this season and a second at the AT&T before the British. He ranks 22nd in ball-striking, 48th in greens hit and seventh in Strokes Gained-Putting on TOUR and was decent last time the tournament was held here.
The Sleepers:
Scott Piercy 50/1
Has looked pretty good lately and will be one of the more fresh competitors this week having taken last week off and he is coming off a confidence-inspiring third two weeks ago at the John Deere. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
Kevin Na 50/1
Missed the cut at the British but shared seventh place at The Old White TPC three weeks ago, his sixth top 10 of the year. He is on TOUR in fairways hit and 147th in greens but 26th in scrambling. Also 48th in adjusted scoring.
Graham DeLeat 66/1
It would be nice to see a Canadian win eh? He finished an impressive tied for 12th at The Old White TPC and looks like a serious players from the Great White North! He ranks 15th on the PGA TOUR in ball-striking and 31st in greens in regulation – all attributes that make him a threat in Hamilton.
Scott Stallings 100/1
Is the most attractive 100/1 shot I can remember. He won the True South Classic by two strokes and is in the best form of his career!
The Pick:
I am going with Matt Kuchar at 11/1 this week. His demeanor should serve him well after an exhausting week overseas and his ball striking is well suited for this track.
My sleeper is the Canadian Graham DeLeat at 66/1. Canadians never win especially in their own tournament but my five year old daughter (four correct tournament picks in 2012!!!!) has a feeling about this one.
Seriously!
