2009 United States Open Preview/Picks

Preview and free golf picks for the 2009 U.S. Open Championship, which is hosted by Bethpage Black course in Bethpage State Park, in Farmingdale, New York. The purse is $7.5 Million, and the defending champ is Tiger Woods…

Golf Betting US Open Predictions/Pick

US Open Lines – Plenty of Good Candidates at the US Open

The US Open odds are finally posted for the second major of the year on the PGA Tour. While the golf betting community is quick to pick Tiger Woods as the Champion-to-be, there are plenty of other golfers with a legitimate shot.

Here is a five-pack of golfers with a chance to win:

Tiger Woods

We’ll start with the obvious: Woods has won the US Open three times and tamed Bethpage Black in 2002 – those are points difficult to argue with.

But the odds for Woods (+190) are so low that you have to wonder whether he’s even worth a pick.

He’s a lock for the Top 20 and he’s a lock to make some kind of run at it but he’s not a lock to win it.

David Toms

David Toms is a major winner so he’s definitely capable of doing the deed. Toms is the best at hitting the fairways on the Tour this year and considering how long Bethpage will play this year, the golfers who are accurate and efficient should be rewarded.

He has six Top-six finishes this year including a tie for second at the St. Jude Classic, which is an encouraging sign.

Hunter Mahan

Hunter Mahan has quietly had a productive season. He’s made all 14 cuts and has eight Top-25s. He also has Top-25 finishes in each of the last two US Opens.

Mahan can hit it long and accurate off the tee, which will be the name of the game at Bethpage. He’s 13th in total driving distance on the Tour this year and don’t be surprised if he’s with the leaders on Sunday.

Sean O’Hair

Sean O’Hair is another golfer who fits the long and accurate category, which will be very important this weekend. His putter lets him down often but on the whole, he’s had a pretty good year.

The American has four Top-fives including a win at Quail Hollow, which is somewhat similar to the US Open course. He’s got a shot.

Online sports wagering long shot pick: Stewart Cink (45-1)

Stewart Cink is a long shot but he’s another golfer whose strengths fit this course very well. I also like the experience factor as he’s been here before and previously nearly won a US Open – he missed a chance at the playoff back in 2001. He won’t be intimidated by Bethpage.

Daily sports pick: Mahan

He’s climbing the ranks on the PGA Tour and this could be his signature win.

I think you only have two ways to go with this years US Open, take Tiger Woods or bet The Field. I’m going with The Field , but I never like betting against Woods.
