British Open Odds – Tough to bet against Tiger

British Open odds for Thursday’s tournament, which tees off in the middle of the night on this side of the pond, will favor a familiar player who has never played at Turnberry, but if you follow the golf world closely, you’ll know that really doesn’t matter when it comes to the world’s No.1 player.

British Open odds – Thursday, July 16, 2:30 PM ET

Tiger Woods is by far the favorite in your offshore sportsbook as he has British Open odds of +185, and he’s won three times in the Open Championship, once in 2000 (ironically, the last tournament Jack Nicklaus ever played in), and then in back-to-back years in 2005 and 2006.

The last one was special as it was his first major championship since his father died, but the 2006 win at Hoylake may have been the best example of why Woods is the best golfer going, and possibly of all time.

It was especially windy that year, and Woods shows how great of a course manager he is by hitting driver only once, preferring to use woods and long irons to keep his ball flight as low as possible.

This year, Woods has been on fire since returning from the knee injury that caused him to miss last year’s British Open and the second half of the season. He’s won three of the nine stroke-play events he’s entered, including two of the last three, and all three have come in tournaments that are hosted by golf legends.

He made a putt on the 72nd hole to win Arnold Palmer’s tournament at Bay Hill, then he stormed back from a five-shot deficit to win Nicklaus’ tournament, the Memorial. Finally, he held off Anthony Kim and Hunter Mahan to win his own event, the AT&T National.

He’s also got T-6 finishes in both the Masters and US Open, which he would have won running away if even half of his birdie putts had dropped. Woods thrives on the big stage, which is why he’s won 14 major championships and is the prohibitive favorite by sports betting software to take his 15th.

Everthing points to Tiger winning this week capturing his 15th Major except his recent trouble with his putter. If he gets that figured out, he wins going away.

One thing you can bet on is that he will be on top or near the top of the leaderboard come the weekend.
