Team Canada and Team USA meet on Sunday in Olympic Men’s Hockey action in a game that will determine the winner of Pool A and who will gain an automatic berth into the Quarterfinals. The United States currently sits in first place in the Pool with Canada sitting second place. Team Canada enters their “Super Sunday” game after a less than impressive shootout win over their Olympic pests, the Swiss. Panic has set in for fans of the powerful Canadian team, but all of their struggles could be a distant memory with a win over cross-border rival, the United States.

Team Canada’s play (1-0-1) has been less than inspiring so far in the Olympic tournament. They started slowly against Norway but came on to score a lopsided 8-0 victory, then faced a stubborn group of Swiss who were looking to repeat their miracle win over Canada in the last Olympics. Canada will have to be much better on Sunday, that is for sure or a playoff seed and a nation’s hopes could go down the drain.

Canada has struggled with chemistry so far in the tournament. The top lines have been shuffled, and defensive pairings have been inconsistent at best. Coach Mike Babcock will need to first decide who his starting goaltender will be, then determine how much he will use the ineffective defense pairing of Drew Doughty and Chris Pronger, then figure out what to do with his offensive studs that have been largely invisible so far in the tournament. Online Sports Betting at SportsbookCanada entered this year’s tournament as overwhelming favorite but has a long way to go before they can think of realizing that dream. A game against their arch nemesis on Sunday will go a long way in determining what kind of team that Canada is – a Gold Medal contender disappointing pretender.

Team USA (2-0) comes into Sunday’s showdown with nothing really to lose. They have already clinched a place in the Medal rounds and on paper, they are not supposed to give Canada much of a game. But this is the USA we are talking about, a team that plays Canada tough every time out whether it is World Championships, World Cup, or World Junior Championships – the two teams don’t seem to play a bad game against each other.

The USA has seemingly had their problems with chemistry as well as the Canadians. The Top lines have been juggled and talent has been moved around in order to attain the right mix going forward. Coach Ron Wilson and his staff have voiced concerns about defensive lapses that will have to be rectified before Sunday’s huge game. Still, the Americans have the luxury of having arguably the best goaltender on the planet on their side. Ryan Miller has been a difference maker on his NHL team this year and will have to fill that role with his American squad if the USA hopes for a Medal.

The real Men’s Olympic Hockey tournament starts on Sunday. Televisions all over Canada and the USA will be tuned into one of the most anticipated Round Robin games in Recent Olympic Hockey memory.

The lines have not come out yet (We will update this piece when they do), but expect them to reflect a close, lowish scoring game. Canada should prevail in a 3-2 type of game. Buckle up – it’s gonna be fun!
