2014-2015 Dallas Stars Betting Preview:

The Stars finished 40-31-11 during the regular season and made the Anaheim Ducks work hard in the first round of last year’s playoffs. Looking for the newest Heavyweight in the Western Conference?

Look no further than the Dallas Stars.

The Dallas Stars looked like a much different team last year with Tyler Seguin in the fold and should be further improved with the moves they made this offseason. In are Jason Spezza, Ales Hemsky and backup goaltender Andres Lindback and out are Alex Chaisson, Ray Whitney and Tim Thomas.

Offense

On paper a forward unit consisting of Spezza, Hemsky, Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are formidable to say the least. An OK power play suddenly looks outstanding! To compete in the West it is widely known that a team absolutely needs two scoring lines – the Stars now have that.

Valeri Nichushkin provides the youth in the top 6 while the other top 6 forwards are young but surprisingly experienced at their age.

Dallas’s third line looks like it will be occupied by 2013-2014 breakout star Ryan Garbuttt who scored 17 goals last season, Antoine Roussel and Cody Eakin.

Defense

Perhaps one thing that will hold Dallas back this season is defense. Dallas did add Andres Lindback to back up Kari Lehtonen but the players in front of him may have a difficult time when it comes to playing the other powers particularly in the tough Western Conference.

2014 Dallas Stars Betting Outlook:

The Dallas Stars are one of a handful of teams that made a huge splash during the offseason – a splash that has potential of improving their chances of going deep into the playoffs.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Seguin, Benn, Spezza and Hemsky are on paper one of the better top four in the NHL – it is the supporting cast that leaves a little bit to be desired.

Keep in mind that Dallas plays in the Central Division – they will be matched up against the Blackhawks and the Blues to name a couple.

The question is whether or not the Stars have closed the gap on the stellar teams within their own division. My guess is – NO. There are still a couple of holes on the Dallas squad – particularly on the back end and between the pipes.

It’s true that Dallas has a nice team with some legitimate pieces in place. That said Dallas looks like they are a player or two away from seriously threatening the Hawks and the Blues.

Translation – the Dallas Stars look like a third place team in the Central Division and look like a team that should make the playoffs again in the West.

After that, the cream should rise to the top – Dallas isn’t quite there yet.
